    UL Football Depth Chart Changes

Noticed quite a few changes to our depth chart, here they are.

    Offense

Bill Sampy is now listed as #2 receiver behind Fred Stamps.

Other WR spot says Eric Bartel or Andre George (who has been starting).

Ronnie Harvey now listed ahead of Tony Hull at center.

Blake Bourque listed as starting FB with Elliot Temple the backup.

    Defense

Due to injury of Justin Venable, G.W. Rudick is now the starting LE with Eugene Kwarteng his backup.

The LT position now says Charlie Smith (who has been starting) or Justin Taylor.

Due to injury of Ross Brupbacher, starting ILB is listed as Ricky Calais or Dallas Charles.

The other ILB position now list Marrious Berry or Stanley Smith (who has been starting).

Interesting changes especially at defensive LT considering Smith has started for 2 years and is a Senior. Hull and Harvey have been going back and forth at center as has the fullback position with many players. I am glad to see Sampy and Bartel get a shot in the rotation at WR to see what they can do. I think Rudick will do fine at DE if he can hold up for a hole game (he is kinda light at 226lbs.) and I know Calais is capable of playing well. I like to see that positions remain wide open and that if you do not produce or slack off you will find youself on the bench. As for Dugas getting kicked off the team, this was not the first time (as we all know) so whatever the problem is I hope Nick gets it worked out for himself but the team comes first so I would say we are probably better off without him. With Dugas gone Fred Stamps and Eric Bartel will handle the punt returns and Bill Sampy and Ivan Taylor the kickoff returns.

    Injury update from RaginCajun.com

  4. Default Louisiana 34 UAB 0

Louisiana's 34-0 swamp drubbing of the UAB Blazers, certainly stacks up there with the best games ever played at the Swamp. Cajun Basin never held more of a home field mistique.

In fact the Ragin Cajun victory ranks as the 5th largest margin of vicory in the the modern era, (since 70)

Great win for the team and Coach Bustle. I could not be happier for them. Wish I could have been there to watch this history being made.

If I am not mistaken that was your goal. I would have been happy with 15,000.

    My goals were to low.

UL Football It seems like forever

since my Saints & Cajuns won on the same weekend. It feels great.

Yeah you know it can only be a few times in the last 5 years. Did the Saints open with a win last year, well yeah it wouldn't matter they open on different weekends. Yeah it has been a while.

  10. This is a GREAT IDEA Reflections on a shutout vs UAB

After watching the rousing 34-point shutout win over UAB in a monsoon no less, I think back to the Colorado Rockies success at the beginning of the 2002 Major League Baseball season.

Supposedly all they did differently was put the baseballs in a humidor to help the weight of the ball in the dry Colorado air.

I want to suggest dipping all UL footballs in Cypress Lake, just prior to any home game. This will accurately simulate the weight of the football in monsoon conditions.

    Geaux Louisiana! Geaux Cajuns.

  11. Default COME HOME FOR HOMECOMING!

Are you Ragin' Cajun Proud? Show it all week starting Oct. 28 for Homecoming 2002. A kickoff celebration will get things started on Oct. 28 at the UL Lafayette Alumni Center on St. Mary Boulevard from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Celebrate with alumni, students, faculty and the football team.

And don't forget to Paint the Town Red on Oct. 30. Business across Lafayette will compete for prizes during this annual event. Schools will do the same on Nov. 1.

Other events include a Tennis Tournament, Golf Tournament, Outstanding Alumni Reception and Homecoming Concert all on Nov. 1. Then on Nov. 2, take to the streets during the Ragin' Road Race, the Open House at the Alumni Center, Homecoming Parade, Tailgating Cook off and last but definitely not least - the football game between Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns and Idaho.

For more information about any of these events, call the Alumni Association at 482-0900.

UL Football this time last year

our attendence average after two games was 13,920. What a difference a new coach and new attitude makes. I am happier about the students turning out than I am anything else. We need to keep this up and shoot for 25,000.
