If we're going to copy the alligator from Florida U. then I'm submitting a "write in" candidate -

A little Ragin' Cajun guy copied from the Fightin' Irish leprechaun. Set him up with a big pot of gumbo at the end of the rainbow (a 2006 bowl victory).

If any of you feel that the pepper is a good thing in any sort of the word, or even if you don't, check out the site below. It is a myspace.com site devoted to the Ragin Cajuns. look towards the bottom right and read all of the comments. there are a fair amount of them, mostly from current students and/or recent grads (the main demographic on myspace), dogging the pepper and requesting other mascots like the chicken or bringing back Mr. Ragin Cajun, for which there is also a myspace.com page (look for him in the list of friends). I think it would be a pretty cool thing to bring back Mr. RC.

I voted for the the state dog, the Catahoula.

We are THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA.

1) If we will not market the nickname CAJUNS with the now defunct CAJUN Man, we need a mascot that furthers our identity as THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA.

2) The Gator does not do that and would be seen as a copy of Florida.

3) The Bulldog was finished the moment we changed our nickname to Cajuns, and already has a large presence in-state for Louisiana Tech. Would be seen as a copy of Tech.

4) The chicken was very entertaining; not a mascot worthy of THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA.

5) The pepper is not entertaining, not a mascot worthy of THE UNIVERSITY OF LOUISIANA, not recognizable for what it is, a vegetable. Better suited for minor league baseball.

I love the Louisiana Big Bad Bull Gator, no one in his left mind would think ours copies Florida. The only thing is Fideaux might not be the best name because a big F might make people think of Florida. Go with LOUISIANA RED just like DaddyCajun's poll.

Man, before I wasn't crazy about the idea of the gator because 1) i guess I wanted something a little more original because of its link to UF and 2) because I kinda skipped over the word 'bull' in bull gator.

Some of you with smaller children may know this, but has UF's mascot ever made a cameo on the Barney Cartoon? That thing looks ridiculous. I liked Turb's rendition before, but now it looks so much better. I think the Gator idea could work really well. Just make sure it doesn't get into the wrong hands and it comes out looking more like that horrible pepper or like UF's. It has to look like what Turb drew. I also like the name 'Red' for it.

If the school could go with something like this, only for atheltics, and a sophisticated fleur de lis or something for a professional, business aspect on that sort of thing, we could get totally away from the pepper and logos with words and designs on fire. It would look way more sophisticated and a lot less cartoonish.

Okay.... I haven't seen the appraisal myself but if you say so.

I still don't care for the lizard thing but if you keep working on alternative Cajun mascots and post one I like, I'll post a "thumbs up" response. In the meantime nothing says "Ragin' Cajun" like our tomato on steroids.

does anyone know the mascot for LSU, Auburn, Missouri, or Memphis? I don't see having a red gator being much of a copy at all. Reallythough I would like to see a real gator at the games.
