From the beginning, Mickey's family said it was the community that gave them strength and today was a chance for this very community to celebrate the life of a daughter, a sister and friend many came to know as their own.

"She was a constant illumination that changed everyone's lives for the better," said Mickey's friend Josh Coen.

Mixed emotions at Parc International as hundreds gathered to celebrate the life of Mickey Shunick. Those who knew Mickey best shared stories about their friend. Receiving the loudest applause of the day, Mickey's sister Charlie. Charlie fought back tears, overwhelmed by the community support.

"The only reason we got this case resolved is because of the community. I mean there are no words in the english language to describe what people did for us," said Charlie.

Some of Mickey's favorite bands played in the rain, including the band she went to see the night she went missing. The event concluded with a bike ride following the route Mickey took home that night--to the very spot where she was hit. It's there where a new pocket park was built in her honor, with a permanent ghost bike on display, serving as a reminder, of the "Mighty Mick."

Brandon Scott Lavergne said in his videotaped confession that he accidentally hit Mickey Shunick as she rode her bicycle in the early morning hours of May 19. He said he stabbed Shunick after they argued over how much he should pay her for the damaged bike and she threatened to call the police.

Authorities in Rapides Parish are searching for clues into who killed 25 year old Dorothy Rosier.

About three weeks ago, hunters discovered human remains in LaSalle Parish.
Using dental records, the LSU FACES Lab positively identified the remains as Rosier.

Nearly three years ago, Dorothy Rosier disappeared without a trace. Family describes her as "dynamite in a small package" and a loving mother of three.

It's been a grueling time looking for answers.

"Lots of people act like it isn't a big deal, but it is a big deal to us and her friends, our family. We all pray something will give of course," said Rosier's sister, Tesia Standlee.

The case went cold until Rosier's remains were identified last week. Finding her partially answered her family's prayers.

"Evidence recovered at the scene and other things we're getting now has this case on the top burner for us," said Lieutenant Tommy Carnline with the Rapides Parish Sheriff's Office.

While this case has remained cold for quite some time, the sheriff's office wants to stress they don't believe this case is connected to serial killers Derrick Todd Lee or Brandon Scott Lavergne.

"We are looking into this as an isolated case in our area. At this time, there's no evidence, non what-so-ever that makes us believe this is related to Brandon Lavergne or Derrick Todd Lee in any form or fashion," said Lt. Carnline.

Finding Dorothy's remains gives the family some closure.

"They always hoped and we always hoped she was somewhere else, living a life and just decided she wanted to go someplace else."

Convicted murderer Brandon Scott Lavergne has filed a motion challenging his convictions. Assistant District Attorney Danny Landry confirms the motion for post-conviction relief was recently denied. Lavergne made the filing from Angola prison where he's serving life for the murders of Mickey Shunick and Lisa Pate.  The prosectution expects Lavergne to re-file.
