That would always be the first choice for prosecutors but I don't think he's been willing to cooperate. The funny thing is that I wonder if he could truly get the death penalty here even if they shoot for it.

Definitely. I've talked to the DA and if he isn't offering... I am. I'm far less humane.

Its not a matter of offering the death penalty, its a matter of whether you can get a judge to hand down that sentence in this area which is a pretty conservative area by nature. The last death penalty was handed down 27 years ago here and this area is far more conservative than others around the state in that regard. A change of venue may not be a terrrible thing if going for the death penalty

Body Believed to be Mickey Shunick Taken to LSU FACES Lab

Police believe the body found in Evangeline Parish Tuesday is that of Mickey Shunick. Today, Lafayette Coroner Keith Talamo confirmed that the body is a woman. Since the body was buried for so long they brought in a team to help.

"My office did identify the body. We decided since she was in advance stages of decomposition, we felt it was best to send her to Louisiana FACES Lab," Talamo said.

The FACES lab specializes in skeletal identification, 3-D Modeling, and also search and recovery. During the lab tests, the lab will be able to figure out almost everything that happened to the body.

"We have a body. We're working with law enforcement trying to confirm the identification," Director of LSU FACES Mary Manhein said.

The body will be returned to Lafayette in the next two weeks and full test results will be available in the next three or four. The identity of the body will be known much sooner.
