    Default The Mickey Shunick Story

The Shunick family is looking for any information on their daughter Mickey. She was last seen leaving the congress st and parkside dr intersection around 1 am saturday morning heading towards gov miro dr in the congress/ambassador area towards home but never made it. Friends say she would have taken parkside dr to the blackham walking track on her route home.

Mickey is white ,5'1" about 115 lbs, blonde hair and was riding a black Schwinn with gold trim. below is a link to the facebook profile that people are using to spread info. The family is looking for anyone who has a business or home with surveillance footage along the route they can volunteer in the effort. Any help or info would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Default Community Rallies Together to Search for Mickey Shunick

Community Rallies Together to Search for Mickey Shunick

Still no sign of 21-year-old Mickey Shunick.

She was last seen at around 2 o'clock Saturday morning when she left a friend's house in the Saint Streets area.
She was on her bike headed home to the area of Ambassador Caffery and West Congress, but she never made it home.

Mickey missed her brother's high school graduation Saturday, no one has been able to get in touch with her ever since.

Sunday, family and friends organized a search party, looking for clues and now a private donor is offering a ten thousand dollar reward for any information leading to the whereabouts of Mickey Shunick, no questions asked.
That donor is also hiring a private investigator, hoping to get answers to many unanswered questions.

Nearly one hundred people gathered on Ryan Drive where Mickey was last seen to canvas the area once again.
Family and friends knocking on doors, retracing Mickey's steps, and posting fliers.

"It doesn't take much of being around her to know how she is, how comfortable she is around other people, and how excited she is about life and everything that is going on. Something is clearly unusual with the circumstances," said search party organizer Brettly Wilson.

Although family and friends have canvassed this large area already near Cajun Field, they are searching areas such as drainage canals again for the slightest clue as to where Mickey could be.

"Mickey doesn't stay at other people's houses, Mickey doesn't have boyfriends, Mickey doesn't have people that are mad at her. Your usual suspects here really aren't going on. She really would have just been going home," said Wilson.

Family and friends are trying to keep their hopes up, but with each passing hour, that becomes more and more difficult.

"I don't think you realize what a special person this is and how many people she has touched, and what you've done. We just want her back. We want her safe. We want our friend."

Weird and it might be nothing, but in an interview this morning on KTDY, the last person to see her alive was being interviewed and towards the end said pretty much the same thing except, "what a special person she was."

I know there have to be exceptions, but I have heard referring to a missing person in the past tense is not a good thing.

I hope I heard wrong and they have a recording of the interview.

Chances are if/when they do find her she will not be alive. That's just the breaks with this situation.

Check the carneys. I know its "profiling" but there is a bit of coincidence, last year, a homeless person was found dead behind the shop rite right there.

I thought it odd to hear "was" just 42 hours after he found out she was missing.

Hopefully that person is the prime suspect...using Occam's Razor.

I find it a bit strange that she was tired and wanting to go home and the guy on the radio took her to taco bell but not home after admitting he lived in a sketchy part of town. He mentioned her route which seems odd that he knew exactly what route she would have ridden. Why she would ride all the way to Johnston street to get back to congress if she was tired? I understand Ryan st and the stretch of congress to university is rough but why not hit up souvenir gate? I just find the story odd. Prayers go out to the family. I hope this has a happy ending.

Volunteers Search Lake Martin For Clues into Mickey Shunick's Disappearance

A group of volunteers took the search for Mickey Shunick outside of Lafayette, Wednesday.  About two dozen people gathered at Lake Martin in St. Martin Parish to search for clues into Mickey's disappearance.

"I pray we don't find her, we're looking for clues," said Eric Robicheaux of Breaux Bridge.

Like so many volunteers, Robicheaux doesn't know Mickey.  "I saw the story and I said I'm going to help out, just to see what I can do."

The volunteers took to the Lake in kayaks and powerboats, some of which were donated to the cause.

"I'm pretty sure somebody has searched out here, but I figured why not go public with it and get more eyes and more boats in the water," said Travis Conques, who is friends with Mickey and helped organized Wednesday's search, which came up empty handed.

"She's a genuinely nice person, we won't stop until we find her," he said.
