There were a lot fewer green and black jerseys on the University of Louisiana practice field Wednesday, and the Cajuns' workout format made sure things stayed that way.
UL was scheduled to hold its final full-scale scrimmage prior to the Sept. 2 season opener against LSU on Wednesday, but coach Rickey Bustle and his staff scaled down the scope of the drills because of the many nagging injuries plaguing his squad.
What UL did Wednesday was hold situational drills at Cajun Field with no tackling to the ground and other limits during the first half of practice.
The second half included 15 plays with backup and scout-team units going full-contact.
"Because of what we did, we were able to put guys back in red (offense) and white (defense) jerseys instead of having them in green (injured)," Bustle said.
"If we'd gone full tilt, we wouldn't have been able to do that, and a lot of those guys wouldn't have been ready for LSU."
