Thread: Cajun Vision??????

    Ragin' Cajuns Cajun Vision??????

What would it take to have Cajun Vision? Yes it is more than likely out of our reach at this time but we must have a goal! How much money would it take? What companies if any are capable of doing this that are in the Lafayette area now? What is the minimum number of subscribers per game? What would it cost advertisers in and around Acadiana?

I think the biggest cost would involve having enough camera angles.

You're right, I wonder what it would take. I could use some Cajun Vision in my life and I think the Cajuns deserve that. We need to get more people motivated/ excited about the Cajuns. Cajun Vision would only expand it!

would be a great idea for the university communication department to do something like that and give the students in the departmant a chance to get some hands on learning, however, given their track record with the campus radio station that is run by hired people and students are rarely given a chance to really get some good learning experience there, i doubt it would happen

Hypothetically, if there were to be such a thing as Cajun Vision, it should only air live for away games. I believe that if you air the live home games, then attendence will slightly slip. Imagine a day like any of the past week where its raining so hard you can't see your hand in front of your face. Are you going to go to the game or are you gonna sit in your warm dry home and watch it on cajunvision? I know that I would be at the swamp in the rain but i highly doubt some of my female friends would be. Or jeez, it doesn't have to even rain. At 4 pm in August you can literally fry an egg on the bleacher. Wouldn't it just be easier to sit in the AC where its cool? Whereas if the home games aren't televised, then they'll have to go if they want to see the games. Cajun vision could tape the home games and re-air them on Sunday or later in the week. But the away games could be live. That would be awesome. I think that until Cajun Field consistently sells out, then having Cajun Vision for home games isn't feesible and would detract from attendance.

That's a reach... but I think we could prolly do what New Mexico State does with a single camera angle web cast... similar to what the Sun Belt did for the conference tourney...

Our baseball team has 4 different angles during their TV games at home(above the grand stands, center field, and next to the 1st/3rd base dugouts).

Now how would that work away, do not know. Cost??

i dont see the cost to the university would be extremely high, depending on our ability to broadcast a tv signal versus a radio signal, we already have all the equipment on campus that i can think of if they use the communication department, would be a great opportunity to give communication students hands on experience producing live television shows, im pretty sure they already are filming games from multiple angles for coaching purposes, {can basically just feed those to a control room and broadcast it(for home games)}, away games would require cooperation from the home university, one the signal gets sent back to lafayette could probably use the same tower space that they rent for radio broadcast of the campus station, i dont see any of this ever happening due to the communication departments lack of concern over its own students and the constant inability of university departments to work together for the common good of the student body

    Yes.

Guys, you are forgetting that that, in order to do something like this, you would have to be able to uplink it to satellite so people outside of Lafayette could see it. The uplink cost and satellite time is really expensive.

AT $34.50 each, you'd need thousands of subscribers to begin to sniff breaking even.
