Tonight the Lafayette City-Parish Council approved a new contract with Redflex, which will bring changes to the Safelight/Safespeed program.

The new deal includes a number of amendments and is a 4-year contract. Drivers can expect to see fixed-cameras at 4 additional locations, as opposed to 17,which was negotiated by the administration. The program will now be administered by the Lafayette Police Department, as opposed to the Department of Traffic & Transportation. Fixed-cameras will no longer capture head-on images of violators, but because of a technical issue, those images will still be captured by mobile speed vans. As for vans, the new contract will allow for 2 additional vans to the fleet, bringing the total to 4.
