Preseason drills for the University of Louisiana football team officially ended Sunday, but Cajun coach Rickey Bustle had a word of warning for the squad following Sunday's two-hour session.
"I told them that we're through with camp but we're not through improving," Bustle said. "Just because camp's over, we're not anywhere near ready to start game planning for anyone."
Classes begin today for the university's fall semester, signaling a change in the Cajuns' workout routine.
UL is scheduled to practice once daily at 3:30 p.m. this week beginning Tuesday and hold a walk-through scripted scrimmage Saturday morning before beginning its regular game-week schedule next Sunday.
The Cajuns are less than two weeks from their Sept. 2 season opener at LSU, and opened the week-before week with Sunday's workout in shoulder pads and shorts.
Much of the session, their 18th in 14 days, was spent cleaning up mistakes and making corrections from Saturday's full-scale scrimmage.
"We still have a lot of things we need to correct," Bustle said after viewing film of the scrimmage, "but I liked what I saw. We had guys making some hits and making some tackles, and our backs ran it hard.
