Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns have completed fall training camp and are ready to get their season practice underway.

The Cajuns finished their 18th practice in 14 days with a two-hour and five-minute session on Sunday afternoon. The grueling two weeks came to a close with a conditioning period consisting of four 100-yard sprints.

Following practice, the Cajuns seniors huddled together to celebrate their final two-a-day camp.

“Camp has been good,” said Cajuns offensive coordinator Rob Christophel. “We’ve been able to get done what we’ve needed to get done.”

Much of Sunday’s practice was spent working on two-minute drill situations. The final team period featured a pair of two-minute drills.

Quarterback Jerry Babb completed 4-of-6 passes to lead his two minute drill down to the 24 yard-line, but Tyler Albrecht’s field goal attempt was blocked.

Quarterback Michael Desormeaux led his unit to the 37 yard-line. Drew Edmiston’s 54-yard attempt was online, but landed just under the crossbar.

“Coach Bustle schedules phases of camp,” stated Christophel. “We’ve worked on our regular offense, red zone, goal line and now the two-minute.

“From here everything else is about refining and getting better each day. There will not be a whole lot more installation, we’re just going to try and get better each day at what we have.”

Christophel credits the leadership of the upperclassmen with helping make camp as successful as it’s been.

“We are farther ahead (than is season’s past) because of the veterans on this team,” explained Christophel. “We have a lot of seniors and juniors back. Obviously, they are comfortable with the system and we don’t have to spend as much time inputting.

“The freshmen have done a good job picking things up and that’s because of the older guys.”

The team will take a day of rest on Monday to allow the student-athletes to concentrate on the first day of classes. Practice will resume on Tuesday at 3:30pm.

Game week preparations for the season opener will officially begin on Sunday.
