Thread: Softball scoreboard watching (Friday 5/11)

  1. UL Softball Softball scoreboard watching (Friday 5/11)

Some good things happening today .

#25 Georgia Tech defeats #16 Florida State 9-1 and advances to the finals of the ACC Tournament against the winner of #31 Virginia Tech/#26 North Carolina. Either opponent will be very good (North Carolina being slightly better), but I would prefer #26 North Carolina losing today as it would help ensure that they stay behind Georgia Tech in the RPI Top 25 . and hopefully fall behind them in the Base RPI Top 25. Georgia Tech winning today may allow them to move into the Base RPI Top 25 (currently #27), fetching an additional .0026 in RPI bonus points for the Cajuns.

#57 Northwestern takes game 1 of the series against #46 Illinois. #1, it helps our OWP . but it also may help keep #50 South Alabama in the Base RPI Top 50 (USA is currently #44 and Illinois is #54) . and stay in the RPI Top 50, giving the Cajuns a better record vs. the RPI Top 50.

#50 South Alabama defeats #58 Florida International today, staying in the winner's bracket. They will face Western Kentucky next (this is good for USA). The Cajuns want to face South Alabama in the finals.

#47 Boston (Base RPI #43) defeats #186 Maine. While this win will hurt Boston's RPI (hopefully they stay in the Base RPI Top 50), it still helps the Cajuns' OWP.

#159 Louisiana Tech defeats #128 Nevada. Another OWP boost.

While #33 Tulsa won today (a positive in and of itself), they beat #43 Houston 4-3 . resulting in a slight negative (OWP). But bonuses will be unaffacted. Houston had a nice win over #41 UCF yesterday.

The Cajuns need Alabama to beat Georgia.

Virginia Tech did knock off North Carolina 4-1. The Sun Belt can claim wins over Virginia Tech (ULM and Middle Tennessee), Florida State (South Alabama and Troy), and Georgia Tech (UL). North Carolina would have been an additional victim (top teams in the ACC) if not for a rainout.

. and Alabama defeats Georgia 1-0.

The Cajuns now have their opportunity to finish ahead of Georgia in the RPI. Just keep winning.

South Alabama rallied and leads WKU 4-2 B8th.

Michigan leads Purdue 2-1 T6th. Northwestern swept a DH from Illinois today (3-2 and 7-3). Unfortunately, Ohio State beats Penn State 5-2 in Game #1.

. and in the battle of the titans, Cal is about to take the series from Arizona State, leading 5-0 B6th.

South Alabama wins 4-2 and awaits their competition in the finals. This win was important for the Cajuns and for South Alabama.
