Guess, I was wrong in what I thought they were scatching.

This is a HORRIBLE title for a news article. I should be able to at least get a clue as to what the article is about when I read the title.

After watching the games all season, i've seen us take too many first pitches. We need to be more agressive at the plate
by jumping on that first fast ball. Getting behind in the count is hurting Big Time ! Being realistic, there is not much we can do
this year except look towards a bright future with some good young talent. But no doubt that we need to go out and get some immediate Juco pitchers to beef up the staff. We've had alot of turnover in the recruiting coordinator position the last 5 yrs.
with Schef, Trahan, and now Deggs, it is hard to continue any relationship with recruits. This has to cause us to lose
some. Might be time for Tony to get more involved with recruiting on the road. Once we get them here, he closes the deal
most of the time, so why not take that talent on the road. Delaying the stadium construction might hurt a bit, but we still have the best atmosphere in the Conference and many other venues in the Nation. I am baffled at why we need a consulting firm
to tell us what we need. we have been discussing the need and the plans for a new stadium for 5+ years, and now we need some expert to confirm that? Come on ! I love football , but 1 Bowl visit in 25 yrs. is not enough to make it a priority. Eight
Baseball regionals, 4 Super reginals, and 1 World Series deserves consideration. Especially when you can't even wash your hands in a flooding restroom . Just imagine the line to get in the restroom when we host LSU or the 3 game series with Alabama?
Imagine the line to get a drink and popcorn..and consider how much attendence would increase with more covered seating area
to get fans out of the sun. Another upper deck in the football stadium on the student side will seem awfully wastefull when empty. Close in the endzones, maybe. I just don't see the need, YET ! Tear down the pressbox, add a new one , add suites,
and close in the end zones. Plenty good enough for now, and if we fill that, then go up with student side. A 42,000 seat stadium with be one of the biggest in the Belt. Hey ! maybe I should charge for this consulting, because i want to see a report saying that a 55,000. seat football stadium is a Priority. In any case, i do applaud our realization that facilities need upgrading.
So, all is not bad , don't get me wrong.

I agree with the recruiting concept. As for facilities... and what comes first... I can't say that if we reward the sport on a "who did more over the long haul"... baseball would win. However, I don't think we have as much to gain with baseball first, than football. I do think it stinks that Tony has, over his career at UL, had to do a huge amount of his own fundraising. He hasn't ever "truly" gotten rewarded for being one of the best attendance programs in the country, for one.

The big donor problem for the new baseball facility really hit us hard. It isn't that guy's fault, but it hammered us. I even realize this caught our management completely off-guard several years back... and I believe it just lingered as a remote but hopeful possibility for too long. Now, you have everything piling on top of each other. If baseball could have been funded under the plan thought to be worked out several years ago, we'd probably be ok.

The problem we are in right now is that football has generated some sex appeal that we need to sell "right now". Baseball does not have much current "sex appeal". When you are going after heavy hitters for funding support, you have to have something to sell them on. The issue with baseball is unfortunate. I'm sick about it. But, you cannot deny the timing right now with our fans and getting the funding in place.

Personally, as much as this hurts baseball... I think we should focus on football and then regroup for baseball. It's a timing thing. If someone or ones from the UL baseball community run a private campaign and get the money, it can start all the sooner.

I'm going to defer to other threads regarding my impression of this "facility study/master plan" thingy.

I think he meant scratching and clawing. Regardless, the season is over. No way a Cajun baseball team should not make the conference tourney. Sad.
