Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns enjoyed their final two-a-day practice on Friday. The Cajuns are now an 8:30am scrimmage on Saturday and a 3:45pm practice on Sunday away from finishing fall camp.
In the morning, the team bruised through 11 periods, which included a middle drill and a team period of third down plays.
The offense had its way with the defense during the middle drill.
“We had a real disappointing middle drill,” said defensive coordinator Brent Pry. “It might have been a combination of injuries and a letdown in excitement and tempo.
“Momentum went their way and they ran the ball at us pretty good.”
The team went back out in the afternoon to work for 90 minutes. The afternoon practice saw the Cajuns continue to work on red zone and goal line plays.
“Practice went much better in the afternoon,” explained Pry. “We addressed some things from the morning and corrected it.
“We practiced with excitement.”
The defense will be looking for a better performance than in the first scrimmage. The offense gained 503 yards in 83 plays, including a 70-yard touchdown strike from Jerry Babb to Jason Chery.
“We need to minimize the big plays,” stated Pry. “We gave up seven big plays in the last scrimmage and we’re looking to cut that number down.
“I want us to play with more excitement on defense. The guys need to be hungrier and get after people. I expect us to have a much better scrimmage.”
With only two days left in camp, the coaching staff is making their final evaluations on players.
“There will be a lot decided after Saturday’s scrimmage,” said Pry. “The depth chart will start to take shape and we’re looking closely at the travel squad.
“The guys have a lot to play for.”
