Thread: Sun Belt Softball Tournament (Wednesday 5/9)

  1. UL Softball Sun Belt Softball Tournament (Wednesday 5/9)

    #3 FIU defeats #6 Troy 4-1 in Game #1.

#7 ULM vs. #2 South Alabama just getting underway. We need South Alabama to win this one.

Dan McDonald is doing the play-by-play on the Sun Belt video broadcast.

I wish they had a better video feed. It has been great to watch the other teams. Great bargain also.

... and we are in a rain delay with South Alabama leading 3-0 over ULM after 2 innings of play.

Do we want USA to win their side of the bracket and play them in the championship game?

    Absolutely. Two reasons ...

#1 We want the best possible opponent to help our RPI. South Alabama is also currently the only opponent in the Sun Belt where we can earn an RPI bonus with a win.
#2 ... and most importantly ... We want South Alabama to remain in the Base RPI Top 50 ... else it will cost the Cajuns a full .0039 in RPI bonus.

As an aside, I would like to see South Alabama earn an at-large bid. The Jags clearly have the best shot at earning an at-large bid among the teams in the Sun Belt (other than the Cajuns, which are a lock).

That's what I figured. Play the best opponent's possible, and have USA win as many games to help them move up too.

By itself, a win over Florida Atlantic in the opening round of the Sun Belt Tournament will result in a .0020 hit in RPI (from .6592 to .6572). The Cajuns' OWP would drop to .5356 and OOWP would rise to .5397.

Let's hope FAU is two and done.

Not the announcer. The announcer is former Cajun SID and local reporter Dan McDonald. That was the South Alabama coach who was talking about Lafayette.
