He has a year off...as long as it doesn't interfere with him learning the system...Marlin needs all the help he can get.

Still has to sit out regardless of the sport. If he transferred from Tulsa as a regular student to UL only to be a walk-on for the football team he would still have to sit out a year.

I didn't know that. He has to sit out of all athletics for his transfer year? There aren't too many athletes that can transfer in D1 and actually make multiple sports teams, so I guess this question has never come up for me. That seems a little harsh. I figured you only had to sit out of the sport you played at the prior program.

As of yesterday, he has not notified the staff of his plans to transfer to UL. It was news to them.

But he would be eligible to play basketball in the spring after his senior year of football if it is what both parties wanted.

Yeah. You have to satisfy a residency requirement when you transfer to an NCAA division I institution no matter what school you transfer from. (NCAA I, II, III) or NAIA. Even if you did not play a sport at the other institution.

    Juco's are the only exception.

    Tough rule.

I asked him about this, when I found out about him transferring. We were both at UL basketball game. He said he would rather focus on football.

Not necessarily true. Ray Shipman (a former Cajuns basketball recruit) left Florida's basketball program to play football at UCF a few years ago. He was allowed to play football immediately at UCF because it had been at least two years since he had played the sport and was a college basketball player at Florida.

On his profile it said he sat out 2010 due to NCAA transfer rules. LINK
