Thread: Chery Bomb

  1. UL Football Chery Bomb

Jason Chery was waiting for the opportunity he was presented Wednesday morning. His first thought: Don't drop it.

The University of Louisiana sophomore wide receiver was on the end of a 70-yard touchdown pass from Jerry Babb on the second half's first play during the Cajuns' initial full-scale scrimmage.

Chery, considered the fastest member of the UL squad, got behind the secondary and took the high-arching pass in full stride and went untouched the final 25 yards.

"That felt good," said Chery, a product of West Palm Beach, Fla., who caught seven passes in a reserve role last season. "We call it a crack route, kind of a quick stop and cut in toward the middle."

Chery has legitimate 4.3 40-yard-dash speed, and the UL press guide lists him with the best time ever in its strength and conditioning program with a 4.25 during 2006 spring drills.

I spoke with Chery for fan day and he said he was timed in the 40 yard dash at 4.225 secs in the Spring after coming off a slight pull in his hamstring. He was healthy at the timing but not in the shape he is in now. He said he should be sub 4.2secs in the 40 now!!

Jason also said that last year he could not catch a ball to save his life, but caught 80+ balls a day this Summer!!!! Stated if the QB's can get back quick enough and get the ball out far enough, he would do the rest!!!

He certainly did that Wednesday morning!! He ran by and pulled away from D-Backs that run 4.3's+!!!! Made it look like they were standing still!!

This cat IS seriously fast and really has a good head on him!! I enjoyed talking to him, he spoke about not going out and the future. He wants to get into real estate if pro ball does not call him!!
