First scrimmages are notorious for mistakes, but for the most part that wasn't the case for the University of Louisiana Wednesday morning.

The Cajun squad held a 103-play scrimmage at Cajun Field, and coach Rickey Bustle was happy enough with the results to cancel Wednesday afternoon's scheduled practice session.

"I thought it was good for our first time," Bustle said. "We did things better in the first half than we did in the second half, but it was a good start."

UL's offensive units accounted for 202 rush yards and 283 passing yards in 83 offensive plays, with the other 20 plays centering around the kicking game. Each of the four quarterbacks completed over 50 percent on pass attempts, and four different backs rushed for 25 or more yards.

"Defensively, we didn't tackle well," Bustle said after the 95-minute session. "We gave up two big plays in the second half, and we can't do that. We got tired and that's when we missed some tackles. But I didn't see any stupid penalties."

The same couldn't be said for the offense, which was hit with two major penalties that negated double-figure yardage plays. Lafayette running back Caleb Rubin also had two fumbles after lengthy gains.
