Is the union completed yet?
Yes, for the most part. I think there are still a few areas that aren't open, but it has been open since early in the year. The PO is not open yet, and I'm sure there are few other things not quite finished yet either. But I walked through it this weekend: it truly is something else. So bright and airy, and grand views of the lake every place you turn. We should very proud of this. And it is clear, that along with dorms....especially the ones along the Rose Garden.....have had a big impact on enrollement. And this will only increase once everything is done.
Great times in Cajun Nation.
The post office is open now. It moved in June. It is very nice. I think everything is done. From what I understand they are going to reinstall the old Bulldog tile mosaic. I don't know where they plan to put it though.
From what I can see the only construction going on on campus now is Fletcher Hall, the demolition of Guillory/Corona/Olivier and some work being done on the Snak Hut near the new parking tower.
For some reason they still have the sign on the outside door. But the inside door has the paper taken off. It looks very nice inside. The old post office was wide open this weekend. I went inside while I was taking photographs. It was a time warp, as it was exactly the same as it was 20 or 30 years ago.
On another note, they are hauling off tons (literally) of debris from the site today. It was getting to the point that they could not move and they had to get rid of it.
I will be so nice to see the swamp from the road!
Pine sap is the worst thing that comes from that trash of a tree! Needles can at least burn!
LOL: yeah I had poked my head in about an month ago and had that very same feeling. It took me waaaay back the minute I went in. But you know, Bittle is a cool little building, and a great location for the UP. I bet it will be nice once they renovate it.
But there is nothing old about the new PO: for a while I worried they would just bring in the old boxes, lol. That is definitely not the case....very high-end looking.
Looks like they have made steady progress removing debris these last two days. you can now see cars parked on the Boulevard.
Yeah...I am amazed how quickly the debris was removed. And I just sent a nice email to request that they move the cam to Moody, as we will not be able to see the rest of the demo from the present cam.
