I have a few pics from inside the union: the lobby was not done the last time I was there. Gotta love the alma mater on one side, and fight song on the other
From the front door you can see all the way through to the lake.
And the bookstore is finally open. I wonder when they will tear down the temporary one on St Mary ....
A scheme (unknown year, but circa mid-late 1960's) of the 2nd version of the student union. I like to think that this is the version that would've been built if we were located in baton rouge. ;-)
Model of the version that was built.
It's time for these to go and it won't be long.
Guillory Hall looking a bit long in the tooth.
What used to be Corona Hall looking just as bad.
While the buildings are ugly they did have examples of some interesting design. This is what is called a flying cantilever used for the balcony of the second floor.
The stairs always interested me. The rise and run were awkward though.
Positive pressure indicators used for asbestos abatement. I suspect that once the abatement is over the buildings will be coming down.
The finished and landscaped Mckinley facade of the Union. It has a very nice ambiance to it. The scale of the trees along with the walk make the area very nice.
The McKinley Street entrance to the Union with the completed sign.
I had also recently taken a pic of the 'porch' that was retained from the original Union: they have painted it, and it looks great. Glad they kept it.
Plus a few from the McKinley entry: the lawn and landscaping in general look fantastic. And the trellises make for a great light/shadow effect.
A night view: the giant FDL on the doors, and the red LED lighting are very nice touches.
I went to the new Post Office in the new Student Union last week. It is a first class place. Really nice.
