I forgot to mention that it appears that all of the lighting in the building will be high efficiency LED. I noticed that they insulated the hell out of the building so it should be energy efficient to heat and cool. The energy cost to operate this building should be considerably less than the old building but the new building it is much larger.

They are going through the punch list items now, (there were literally over 1000 items on the list). They are progressing nicely as I understand and it appears they should be finished sometime early next week.

They will be demolishing Guillory Hall along with the balcony over the lake and replacing the area with a plaza. They have blocked off the walkway to the balcony and as of last night there is no access to Guillory hall. There is talk of building another building in the area that will have an overlook but the person I spoke to was rather vague in the description. There is also some discussion to have a large bike parking area along with a vending area for bike supplies and air. There are scores of bikes parked at all of the new residence halls. So many that they bleed out into areas that block pedestrian traffic. I'm thinking that by this afternoon they will be removing a lot of the construction fencing and I will be able to take some photos from different locations if the weather permits.

The parking garage is finished and I hope to take photos there this weekend, again if the weather permits.
I hope they don't put to much concrete up around the lake ... are they using the green space effectively as not to diminish the beauty of Cypress Lake?

It would be such a great thing to expand Cypress lake and border it which a pleasing border. Such a unique structure. Only one on any campus.

Yep...I've been saying this all along: I'm not too concerned about expanding it, but it would GREAT if we don't skimp in the finishing touches. To me these are: fixing the existing borders to match the new ones (ie, the caps stones, etc), replace the e siting fencing with brick borders, replace the overlook and also replacing all the side walks on the burke-Hawthorne side.
This is too much of a unique area to not give it our best efforts.

We should start the "Secure the swamp" or "Save the swamp" program with drop buckets on campus for money to redo the structures. Why doesn't UL utilize the students, i.e. free workers, to do senior/junior year projects associated with their degree to aid the university with things such as this? Create and sustain an ad/fund raising campaign for ..... for grade.

You sure could involve a number of different programs at the university in the project.

How about this project. "Leave a legacy", get EVERY alumni to give $10. Some will give more, but just think of this. 1. Get people involved back into the university. 2. Make people feel as if they are part of something. 3. Make it happen and social media it to death, so people can feel good. 4. Contact people and renew excitement for UL. If the person, whomever that could be, fails miserably, at the least, they may ignite a fire for someone else to grab the torch and start running with it.

Ant pile theory. 1 ant, no problem. 1,000,000 ants, problem!
