The white looks nice now but I wonder how it will look after a few summers of heat and humidity. I'm thinking mold and mildew will be a constant problem. Also, other than Madison Hall there are no buildings with metal cladding. They wanted to place metal cladding on Fletcher Hall and it was met with outrage. We will see.

I kind of noticed this when I took my last set of pics. I kind of like the texture it adds, but it looked too uneven........almost like it wasn't installed right. My thought was the same as yours: I hoped they weren't finished with it yet. But I guess we can just hope, wait and see.

And I don't know why they didn't save some of the bricks from the demo, so that they could use them on the wall(s) that directly connect to the existing structure. Oh yeah, prob 'cause of time and money ..... too bad, as it seems to me that this would've not have been too hard to do.

I spoke with somebody at ASW today. They were out voted with respect to the metal cladding. I understand it got pretty intense in the design process and FWIW, they are not happy with the metal cladding as there is no building on campus that has it and they think it looks really bad too. . I think it was a budget thing.

A 25 million dollar project and we're adding aluminum siding to save $25K (or whatever it might be) of bricks and labor?

That sounds like the oil field I am on a rig right now that refused to get a professional cleaning crew to clean up the pit system and flow lines. Well that crew would have cost them about $20k. Instead they used the rig crew and it took them 36 hours to clean where the cleaning crew would have taken 12. Son instead of spending $20k they wind up spending an extra $145k in day rental for the rig.

I'm not an architect or a contractor...is that something that can be fixed//changed later? Not that I'd expect them to. But you know, why do it right the first time when you can save now and spend twice what it would've originally cost later on.

That doesnt look like metal siding to me. I may be wrong but if you look closely it looks like textured cinder blocks. Which isn't exactly ideal but I have seen some pretty nice buildings elsewhere that look great.

People do this all the time in their personal lives. They need a home, they buy one needing lots of work. They cannot afford the one needing no work, and little by little they, at an inflated cost, bring the cheaper up to what they wanted. Yes they spent more, but got what they needed. We need SF, CF, we want aesthetic beauty.

Sometimes compromise is needed to accomplish a bigger goal.

Believe me it is metal siding I saw them putting it on.

A few pics from yesterday. Not many changes, but the exterior work is nearing completion. And for what's it worth, the 'aluminum siding' is kind of growing on me. At least I didn't think it was too repulsive this time, lol.
