Turbine. I have that photo in printed form I will see if I can scan it. It may have to be in pieces so I can maintain the resolution and keep the file size reasonable. That was the inside cover of the 1965 or 1966 yearbook. I might even try to scan the inside cover of that yearbook. I have looked through some of the yearbook I have and have found construction photos of cajun field, the new (now being renovated) student union, Doucet Hall, and Wharton Hall. I have been unable to find photos of Dupre Library as a single story. I have been able to find a few photos of the library during and right after the two story addition. I will scan those and add them to the collection. The mid to late 60's saw a pretty extensive building boom on campus, with Dupre Library additions, Doucet Hall, Wharton Hall, Angelle Hall, Voorhies Hall, old Denbo and Bancroft halls and Cajun Field. Martin Hall and F G Mouton Hall were built in the early 60's.

Was HL Griffin an early 70s construction? I thought it was fairly new the first time I went into it in 1975.

I started at USL in the Fall of 1972 and, if I remember correctly, Griffin was opened the year before. The building was brand new when I took freshmen English courses.

There were escalators that ran from the first to third floors. They never worked and would randomly stop abruptly. They eventually took them out. I never used the escalators because the stairs were faster.

And the two really old buildings to the Johnston st side of the ballfield housed Indus Arts/Tech and the althletic office. Used to pick up the game programs that the Arnold Air Society would sell at the football games. We made a few cents on each sale. Remember asking Whitey Urban for a "raise." Fastest I've ever been thrown out of an office.

Although I am not a good photog, here are some pics that I took this Friday. I took them while standing on the raised planter, on the Ball Room side of the swamp, showing the progress of the new courtyard area, etc

Here are a few photos of the Student Union taken on November 3, 2013.

The food service wing is really starting to take shape. Once they get the roof on it will be pretty much out of the weather and the winter will not slow them up too much.

A view from Boucher Drive near the front of Buchanan Hall. The second story window opening will over look a plaza that will be where Guillory Hall is now.

Placing plywood sheeting on the roof to accept roofing felts and shingles. Taken from the stair of the eye sore buildings.

Roof of the food service wing as seen from the top of Olivier Parking tower. I don't think we will be able to see this from here much longer. The roof of the main portion of the building should block most of it.

Work continues to progress on the Union. I did not take too many photos this week. It was too nice of a day and I needed to work in my garden.

This is a view of the food service wing near the front of Buchanan Hall.

A few guys working today [lacing a decorative concrete band at the roof line. This will match the band on the older part of the building that was not demolished.

Work is coming along nicely. Looks like they have the food service wing pretty much out of the weather just in time for the Winter.

Hey HelmutVII, did they by chance save the USL Bulldog tile mosaic by the bookstore before tearing it down?

I remember reading some where that they did indeed save the "Bulldog". I can't remember where I saw it though.
