We should be going live in about 2 weeks. I received our latest sample in last week and I was able to wear it to the game Saturday. My hope is to buy some of the advertising spots on here.

That land has the two Medical Office buildings, the last building that was part of the old orphanage the Imaging building behind it and the Parking Garage behind the medical Office buildings . The building that houses Affiliated Blind is also owned by the Diocese. The parking garage immediately adjacent to the old Lourdes hospital is on property owned by Lourdes and by the Diocese. (the property line is the center of the Branch of the Coulee Mine that was bridged over to build the parking garage) There is a parking garage across St. Landry that is owned by Lourdes also.
    Concerning the Lourdes property....

I was in a meeting a few months ago where Joey Durel was discussing Lafayette properties. Being I live in the Saint Street area, I asked what is going on with the old Lourdes hospital and it's associated properties since many people in our neighborhood are worried about it being vacant and the problems such a large vacated building brings to our neighborhood. Mayor Durel stated that UL is currently in a "land-locked" situation around campus and expansion is difficult. When city of Lafayette bought the Horse Farm from UL, the city government proposed that UL use proceeds from the sale to acquire the Lourdes property on St Mary/St Landry. The acquisition of the property would give UL room to expand around campus, which I feel is a great direction for the University.

The good news is that the old Lourdes hospital building is useless and needs to be demolished. That means UL would only have to buy the property it sits on and not the property + buildings on it. I would really like to see this take place.

I think they're making a quadrangle right there. That side of campus' version of the quad.

I had a contractor in our office a couple of months ago who was in the process of submitting bids to demolish the old Lourdes. It should occur shortly.

BTW, UL has $10 million set aside for the purchase of additional property. That was included in the rather large pdf that was in the last UL board meeting giving approval for the work at the athletic complex as well as the parking garage.

I thought for sure that the buildings (excluding the parking garages) were being demolished---I have heard that the problem is the long term lease that the Lourdes people have with the diocese---The hospital although moving to a new location still is obliged to make the negotiated payments--Have no idea what will happen but UL needs this!!!

Boomer, maybe you can put in a good word for us with the Diocese. We could trade them the St. Landry/St.Mary property for some we have in Cade.

They are doing asbestos abatement on the old building now. I suspect they will start the demolition fairly soon after that. (except the parking garage as I understand)

I thought that the Horse Farm money was being set aside specifically for the Lourdes purchase---really don't know---anybody have the scoop?? Beau would that be part of the $10 mill???
