Finally some progress in getting out of the ground.

This is the new food service wing as seen from the side of Corona residence hall. Guillory hall is to the right. It has taken some time to get to this point because of all the underground water and sewer lines for the new kitchen. Storm drainage pipes are in the foreground waiting to be installed.

A view from the rear of McLauren Gym. This will give you an idea of how far the middle section of the building is being moved towards McKinley street.

    may-5-2

A view from the top of Olivier Parking tower. They are installing auger cast piles by using the rig with the ladder auger on the left.

    may-5-3

Auger cast piles installed next to the bookstore.

    may-5-4

Auger cast piles installed next to the ballroom/theater.

Close up of the top of an auger cast pile. Auger cast piles were used under Olivier parking tower. The sheet metal top will be removed when the foundation is constructed

Good weather this past week has allowed for more progress.

They placed concrete foundation and slab for the dining area of the food service wing last week. This view is from the Harris Hall fire escape. The Kitchen area is closest to the camera. you can tell by all the pipe stub outs sticking up above the floor level.

Another view from the rear of McLauren Gym. New kitchen is closest to the camera.

View of the main portion of the building from a planter next to Cypress Lake. Bookstore is to the left and ball room is to the right.

    may-19-4

Flaming pepper scratched into a make shift door ramp. This is on one of the "eyesore" buildings and thankfully this will be demolished.

    may-19-7

A tried and true method for water level control in Cypress lake. (yes it is what you think it is but on a larger scale)

    may-19-3

Rear view of almost completed Buchanan Hall. It looks very nice.

More progress this week means they will be erecting steel pretty soon. As seen from the rear of Guillory Hall.

    may-26-7

More mechanical and plumbing work being done in the new area for the kitchen.

    may-26-3

Large chilled water lines leaving and returning to the mechanical room. As seen from the rear of McLauren Gym.

A look into the hall between the ballroom (right) and theater (left).

Buchanan Hall has turned out to be a very nice building. I understand it will be used for general office space. I don't know that for sure though.

    Nice work.

Where did you have to get to take the picture of the rebar looking structure with the 100 on it?

and thanks for the commitment to tracking the progress.

I drove the campus today and am really disappointed in the back of the new dorm areas---tire rut marks with the concrete stoppers all turned --just really shabby looking---We need to address this ASAP!!! Too much money and effort to not have a first class surrounding!!!

I was standing on top of some transformers located behind Corona Hall to the left in the photo below. The rebar structure is the boom of the crane in the photo below. The 100 means the joint in the boom is 100 feet from the pivot point. It's all about balance and leverage when using a crane. (especially crawlers).

It's a good thing you didn't go in the stairwells in Olivier Parking tower. It's pretty bad. Graffiti on the walls and fast food bags and wrappers all over the place.

No steel yet. It looks like they will wait until the next concrete placement to start. If the rain holds off I don't think it will be too long.

I am glad you do. It's really no problem, I cross the street and I'm there.

Hey Helm---looks like this is taking longer than the dorms--my imagination or just a different animal???
