The renovated Student Union will be one building and will have generally the same design as all of the other buildings on campus. Although this building will be different it will have red brick with white trim.

Most of the traditional designed buildings had red brick with white trim. The windows typically are 6 over 6 double hung units. Roof slopes are usually 6 on 12 (give or take) with a circular or oval window at gable ends. An arch is incorporated somewhere on the building. Any building with a flat roof is the exception to this general rule (the renovated Student Union will have a flat roof.) Fortunately, three of the most notorious buildings that violate the rule will be demolished during this renovation. That will happen after the renovation to the main building is complete.

The color of the brick on the new residence halls is called Ragin Cajun red and was made at a brick kiln in Georgia (I think)

The problem I had with whoever did Tech's new building is that they didn't pick one style to do them in

With this talk of brick color and building style, how do you think the new part of the union will mesh aesthetically with the older, non-demoed parts of the union (bookstore & ballroom)?

Go to post 101 of this thread and you will see renderings of the renovated structure. It appears that the plan they have proposed should result in an almost seamless result. It all depends on how the contractor executes the plan and the quality of workmanship if they will be successful or not. I'm thinking Lemoine will do a good job and they will have a good product in the end. HOWEVER, it has always been my contention that they have money to build but do they have enough to maintain. I walk through the Olivier parking tower regularly and it usually is filthy. I guess we shall see.

  9. Default Construction Phase

In the coming months, an updated and larger version of the University of Louisiana's Student Union will emerge from behind the familiar, white columns that have framed the building for decades.

Most of the existing building was demolished to make way for the upgrades and an additional 30,000 square feet of space. Parts of the former 128,000-square-foot building that will remain for renovations include the bookstore area, ballroom and the Bayou Bijou Theatre.

What is the area from the apart/dorms to the Union going to be??? I was under the impression that it would be a village street walk area with restaurants and shops!!!!
