Helmut, have you seen some plans on the new and improved Student Union; I would like to see an architecural renduring to visualize what you will be posting here! I don't remember seeing any such renduring, but that really doesn't mean much! Thanks.

Does anyone know where one can view the new design of the Student Union. This isn't a secret project and you would think they would want Alum to see it so we can get pumped up. Sometimes, I believe keeping us in the dark is on purpose or someone in PR isn't doing there job.
GEAUX CAJUNS
Rather lengthy article in La Louisiane which is the primary method of keeping in touch with alumni.

I have briefly seen plans of the project. They pretty much match the previously posted renderings on this site (I don't have a link though). I would not expect to see anything out there that is not released by the University. I have found that the University is, shall we say "inadequate", in updating any web site information. It would seem to me that with the advance computer science department that we have it wouldn't be too much to ask that updates to the web sites be made. It's like the head of public information got their training from the CIA. (Unlike the Athletic Department Public Information head who got their training from the KGB).
In addition to that, I think that one of the problems is that they are in the process of getting plans approved and the final product is subject to change, pending that final approval.
Can one of you old farts explain to me what a watch station is?
Large facilities would have a night watchman to keep the place secure. These watchmen were known to take a nap every now and then. They devised a system that would have a watch clock station like the one shown above. This station would be a little hinged box. Inside that box was a key attached to a chain and then attached to the box. The watchman would carry a recording device that the key would fit into. As the watchman would make his rounds he would insert the key into the recorder to record the time he was at that station.
The box shown in the phot still has the chain in it but not the key. I will take a photo of the inside next week.
Still remember the watchmen with the key on the Godcheaux Suger Refinery at our "company" home. Key attached to a large pecan tree in front yard. My grandfather told me that inside "clock" was a heavy paper that the key made a mark on. Indicated time that watchman turned key. That was read by supervisor when the watchman returned to HQ. Loved watching that. Glad I didn't go into that line of work. Seemed like a dream job though at the time.
They are still demolishing the old Saucier Clinic. There must be lots of Asbestos or the contractor is related to the same guy that did the softball stadium.
This is the inside of the watch station box that I took a photo of last week. Still has the chain and it looks like sombody has recently painted the box.
I have always hated this building except when getting my mail one day and a lil red neck cutie-pie made my heart flip!!! Worked there pretty many days with the UL yearbook!!! Ugly piece of crap---thank God for T-Joe!!!! Go back and think of all the wood around the campus that needed painting and the landscape and all the rest he has done----Now lets get the Athletic Department ready for greater things!!!!
Olivier and Guillory are coming down as well right?
The photo is of Corona it will eventually be demolished along with Olivier. There was talk of extensive renovation of Guillory because of the balcony/walk way over Cypress lake. I don't know the final decision on that yet. Gullory will be temporary food service while the main student union building is being renovated.
