Thank you for all of the great photos.
Thank you for all of the great photos.
Old Corona hall is coming down this morning.
Yep. And they have Hebrard barricaded off, so I guess they can do Olivier Hall.
And you were very right in saying the overlook will make a fine stage: I was there this morning and was kind of blown away of how big it will/could be. I think it will a fantastic addition to the campus.....I can just picture bands playing there, with students packed onto the new green space, all for many generations to come.
The dining room with a view......
Other improvements around the Union: they are installing tables around the new terraces, and they've painted/coated the tall porch thing that was saved from the old Union.
And they are doing a good job of tying in the new concrete surface with the old tiles.
Corona Hall getting busted.
Here it comes.
Another bite
There she goes.
There is an active transformer to the left of the photo that they have to be careful of. There is another active transformer next to where Guillory Hall was. So they can't just go in there and start busting up things like crazy. They also have to do debris control. If they don't they will have a hard time moving around. I would suspect that by next weekend they will be well into Olivier hall. That will be even more restricted because they have Cypress lake getting closer as they move to the western end of the building.
The guy operating the demolition back hoe doesn't stop. He is like the energizer bunny. Although I think he hasn't figured out that if he grabs a big hunk of concrete with his bucket while he is hitting the building it will give the bucket more mass.
Yep, I thought the same thing.....that guy has been working hard all day.....rarely stops! Are the transformers the reason they didn't just blast them down? The location in general? I think most of us thought they would do the abatement, maybe strip it down some, then just blow them down. This looks to be much more labor intensive.
They don't demolish small buildings like this with explosives. These guys are taking every bit of the material from these buildings and recycling the steel, concrete, copper and aluminum. This is where their profit is and they are squeezing as much out of it as possible.
As of now they are about 50% through old Corona. I would suspect they will be finished by this afternoon.
HelmutVII if I could pay you for your informative pictures and explanations I would.
Someday I will find a tangible way to thank you.
Until then, thank you.
