Thanks for a great post, and while I agree with some of what you said, I disagree that every building should 'fit in' with other buildings......guess I'm just an am anarchist at heart, lol.
I also don't think that Dupre was really ever a MCM, but then again, not sure what category it would have been place in.

I'm okay with buildings that don't fit in but not on a college campus. But to each his own. And hey, at least you've still got Griffin Hall. And you're right, i don't think Dupre is MCM but I think it still followed that same MCM principal of standing apart from the buildings around it.

As far as the union is concerned, I hope you're right. I like the function of it. They moved it closer to the street, removed the parking lot, added more windows facing the swamp to sort of open the building up to the swamp. But I'm definitely confused about the form. To me it looks like the form borrows heavily from the old union. And of all the buildings on campus I don't know why they want to borrow ideas from that old, ugly, and uninspiring student union. I don't think we need to preserve that type of design in our future campus architecture. But once again, to each his own.

Dupre library was originally a single story building. The second and third floors were added several years later. Hence, the precast concrete sections on the second and third floors. The rear section was added on about 10 years ago (I think). That's why it looks like three different buildings.

Well, we both agree on that: they could've started from scratch rather than copy it over......but I guess it all goes back to lack of $$$$$$

Well, this is about as good as I could find: you can barely see it, but in this 1965 photo, you can tell Dupre is indeed one story. Hope someone is able to find a better pic.
