I found my spot to take photos of the student union renovation. The top floor of the Olivier Parking Tower. It will allow photos of the entire site with not problems. Thei was taken from the walkway leading into the union by the bookstore.

    my-spot

Alligator in Camo floating in Cypress Lake.

    gator-camo

These will be the last photos of Student Union construction for some time. They are not going to start any time soon as they are just getting plans approved and ready for bidding.

Anyone know of the approximate start date? I am really getting pumped about this building, really pumped!

Will the new student union incorporate the current one, or is it going to be a total rebuild?

Yes it is...I believe the ball room, theatre and bookstore will all be renovated while the middle section of the building will be torn down and replaced. An additional wing attached to the bookstore headed towards Hebrard will be added. Whether the bookstore will be used as a bookstore, I don't know, but I do believe the ball room and theatre will still be used for its current purpose just completely renovated. I could be wrong but the last time I checked, that was the plan.

I had seen/heard that there would be a village/town square look that would almost be a part of the new dorms and very close for all needs of food, medicine, (maybe a cold beer), general necessities etc. ---Just seemed like a great concept!!! Now we have a great school and all the peripheral activities and structure of a BIG TIME UNIVERSITY!!! As a VERY LOW tech guy---Can a student go on line and skip the library ???? I know that they can't use the lYbrary anymore!!!

I saw a set of drawings at the print shop and took a peak. The middle of the Union as is it now will basically be demolished and pushed out to McKinley street. The bookstore wing and the theater wing will remain and be renovated. The bookstore wing will be extended to Boucher and to Guillory hall. This extension will be the new food service area with delivery service from Boucher.

Nice job explaining what we will be seeing. Did a Google Earth Map and it is interesting to see how much area the lake takes up from a space view. Also how much space the current union takes up of the entire area. I would hope they have an access perdstrain bridge over Cypress Lake.

Now that would be unique. A walk-across with a little sitting area in the middle..........

I like your idea of investing in UL's priceless BullGator habitat.

Let's never forget it was a anciet buffalo wallow then a pig pen before the gators came, but you don't see me wanting a spirit leader as a bison or a razorback from Louisiana. Just saying give me the blue eyed hounds. ;*)

BullGators frequent Buffalo Wallows, and it was a Swamp before it was a drain off pit for a Pig Pen.
