Wonder what the real value is for a developer - unless connected to the university. Not real close to downtown. No major streets. Great for residential but heavy price to pay for a few homes. Apartments maybe as it's close to school. I like the idea of a combo university/developer/bonds similar to dorms and student center (I know dorms were bonded) that would allow for development of university as a whole. Lourdes/diocese area is vital to our growth overall. Maybe the most critical since purchase of land on Dupre ide of St. Mary.

There are all kinds of things a developer could do with the property. A mixed use would be a possibility though, with commercial along St. Landry and high density residential to the rear. It would be risky though and they would have to be well financed. There are more than a few empty office buildings in the area.

I think we need a Cajun town--visiting at the K State game there was about a 2-3 block area with nothing but things for the students ----cafes, coffee houses, bars, restaurants, clothing stores, smoke shops ----Just wanted to walk and stay!!!

I thought the City of Lafayette was building something similar to make the athletic complex more of a year round destination.

So by the looks of it they're going to keep that original brick facade on the auditorium and bookstore? I understand why they would want to use the existing structure to save on costs, but keeping the exterior is going to look ugly.

    Boooooo architects!

Okay, I've wanted to get this off my chest for a while. Contrary to some comments made on this site about the 'eye sore' buildings, I very much like/admire the mid-century modern (MCM) style ......"Form Follows Function".......and regret that we will be loosing these architectural gems. Well, not so much the old Olivier and Corona halls, as I feel they are too far gone, and really block the view and access to Cypress Lake. But Guillory is a different story: It is a truly elegant little building, and could have been easily put to another use. Not to mention its very cool balcony over the lake, which, despite comments otherwise, I doubt they will recreate. And it even has red bricks, lol (well, orangey-red anyway)! I just think that we should be more careful before tearing down our history. Just sayin'.

Although I have searched on-line for more pics, attached is the only one I could find. In any event, the ad kind of paints a different picture of what is now derided as "eye sore".....they were truly state of the art, and not so long ago, ;-)

Not so long ago? The University was still called SLI in that ad. "Mid-century" was 60+ years ago. Just sayin'. I do agree that Guillory was not a bad little building, and I, too, liked the balcony.
