Community Rallies Together to Revitalize Northside High
Lafayette's Northside High School has been in the news a lot lately. It's been the target of numerous reforms by the Lafayette Parish School Board and Saturday, students and alumni took a bite at bringing about positive change.
One poboy at a time, this group is cooking to boost the morale and revitalize the Northside campus."That's what we need to concentrate on, the positive things that are going on in this community and our schools," said Vanessa Gee, Northside High Alum.
"This is a great school and we want to keep that going," said proud parent and alum, Vanessa Williams.
More than five-thousand dollars worth of po-boys were grilled up for the cause driven by volunteers and donations.
"I'm here to do whatever I can. My daughter is a freshman and it takes a village to raise a child," said Williams.
Both students and alumni alike say its worth giving up their Saturday to ensure the future of their school.
"There are dedicated students here at Northside and everyone should try to come together and cooperate together." Jakeyla Chavis a sophomore says the money raised will benefit student organizations and help revitalize essentials around campus.
"Air conditioning we really need money to fix simple things like that."
For this sophomore though, she says it makes her proud to be a Viking knowing the community is rallying behind the school.
"It is so great to see the alumni, the students, and the parents coming together to help northside."
