However, if Bustle does get offered a big time contract... you can't blame him if he leaves. We just have to hope that Bustle leaves UL as a winner and the next coach can keep the program a winner. Money will start to generate and we can pay coaches more. Hopefully Bustle can stick it out and we can pay him what he wants.

Does anyone know Bustles salary? I read on a search that it's 400k and that he is the highest paid coach in the Sunbelt. If so, he is getting more than I originally thought.

bustles salary is around the $200K per year range. I don't think it's more than $250K per year though.

Bustle just may be that coach.
You do the math, 20k is not good enough to pay anybody any thing. Now if 25k is low average, we need to get to 30k. At 10k the fans above 20k equal $20.00 per person, we get 60k extra fans for the season, and that equals 1.2 million, at 25 k it only equals $500K We averaged around 21K last season and football was in the red.

Fans want a good team, they need to go to the games, and spend between twenty and thirty dollars per person. That kind of support will justify businesses investing in the program. Folks frankly the bare financial minimum to be a sucessful participant in 1A football is attendance around 30k unless you have a sugar daddy for the program.

I would think that outside contributions, plus TV money, helps pay the high salaries much more than the actual attendance, especially when the stadium only holds 31k (or is it more with end zones?). I think the amount of persons in stands is a good barometer of how the program is being supported and is an indicator of how fans and alumni will likely contribute in near future. Of course revenue from ticket sales is also very important, but many D1A programs will always have double Cajuns' attendance because larger stadiums, fan base.

I would have no problem spending $20-30 in beer each game instead of the $20-30 I spend on the bourbon that I bring in. I'd rather give it to UL than Albertson's. Everybody (at least a lot of the people I know, and I am a student) gets a little hammered before the game and keeps getting hammered during the game. Dean Pratt said it in the Verm. a couple years ago when the issue was last brought up: "It doesn't matter if we sell beer or not because all the students bring it in anyway."

Yeah there are probably times when I've seen a good 2-3 thousands hanging out in the parking lot drinking well after the game started. I'm sure we could get the fans who just go out to tailgate... in the doors and keep their buzz going.
