Saints' players suspended

4 players from the Saints were just announced as being suspended by Roger Goodell. Vilma gets a whole year, while 3 others get 3 or 4 game suspensions. 2 of the players are no longer on the team - Fujita and another player are on other teams now. Will Smith was the fourth player hit with suspensions.

Absolutely right! Oh, and the other player, whose name I forgot, is Hargrove. He is not currently with the Saints.

Its amazing how the national media thinks that totally cripples us! Two of the four players are no longer with us and we lose Smith for only four games, and we picked up the two top free agent linebackers this past offseason. I think we got away pretty good.

Vilma is easily replaceable. Smith is also. After the hemming and hawing about how bad the first round of suspensions were...this should ease the pain for any still disgruntled Saints fans.

I think this ends it. It gets Drew signed... and, the Loomis scandal is about to make the Saints look falsely accused. In the end, it will wrap up as a limp whimper.

Vilma and Smith may not even have to serve their suspensions. If this makes it to the courts, they may retire before their case is heard. Kind of like Deuce and Charles Grant in the StarCaps (sp?) case. They publicly said that they and the NFLPA will fight this hard because they have yet to see any concrete evidence of a actual pay for injury system implemented. And there certainly hasn't been enough evidence presented to warrant Vilma's season long suspension.

I don't think the suspensions clear up cap space. even if they did, it's not final that these guys will be suspended for this long with appeals. I doubt this has any effect on the Brees situation.

The question I want answered is - "Did Vilma pay Bobby McCray $10,000 for knocking Kurt Warner out of the game." It has been said many times that the Saints payed for knock outs. Well Warner was knocked out, and Vilma is said to have offered 10K before the game. If Vilma paid McCray, then I think the yearlong suspension is warranted. If the NFL has no proof that a transaction took place then I think Goodell and the NFL better get ready for a strong fight from the players union.

The transaction of money is a big deal in my eyes.

The Saints have the right to act on the news of the suspension. They do not have to wait for the appeals. Actions by the league, even if a suspension is reversed, allows the Saints to hold the league responsible as well. It will affect the signing of Brees... no doubt about it.
