BUSTLE'S VIEW: Wednesday's two-hour morning drills gave UL's staff its first look at the squad in shoulder pads.
"The first two days you're teaching blocking and tackling, putting your hat in the right place," said coach Rickey Bustle. "Now we can go in more of a live situation. It's not just a standing target any more."
Bustle said defenders and blockers won't be taking their opponents to the ground throughout fall practice, except for scrimmage situations.
"That's when you get people hurt," he said. "We've got to learn how to practice full speed and still stay on your feet. We know that linemen are going to wind up on the ground, but we want to stress going full speed but staying high."
NUMBERS: Wednesday's first practice period began at 8:17 a.m. and the squad left the field at 10:15 a.m. after its shortest post-practice conditioning session of fall camp.
