Just because the University of Louisiana football squad left the practice field before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, it doesn't mean the players' day ended before noon.
Far from it, in fact.
The Cajuns are doing on-field workouts only once a day during the first week of fall drills, but that week is also loaded with position and special-teams meetings and weight-room sessions. The meetings, especially, are set up to maximize the effectiveness of the morning drills, according to coach Rickey Bustle.
"Working out in the mornings lets us come back and look at the film in the afternoons, see what we need to correct before the next day," Bustle said. "That lets us install what we want to do the next morning during the night meeting."
Bustle said the squad used to combine the film study and preparation for the next day's practice during evening positional meetings following afternoon workouts. The morning session allows more time for both tasks.
