Thread: We can assume....

    Default We can assume....

That with only a few weeks left in the baseball season, that the facility upgrade will be pushed back again. I had heard that the upgrade was going to be done in stages, but if it's not a done deal, with contractor waiting for the last pitch of the season to be thrown to get started....then we aren't gonna get it done before next season? I also understand mr.farmer was suppose to speak about it at the diamond club....but don't know if that took place. Any insight?

Jay said on his show today that the baseball press conference will occur later in the week. I don't know when the Diamond Club meeting is but that may also be later in the week. Note there is no mid week game in the next few days due to finals.

If I am not mistaken the Diamond Club meets today. And I was also told the Scott would not be there.

Diamond Club meeting is today ... Scott was scheduled to be there ... not being there is not good news!

I got an email earlier in the week and he will not be there unless that has changed for some reason. Last word I got was he will not be there.

I know the problem is because we don't have sufficient funding in place for baseball right now ... I am really hoping we can get to the point that we go public with our plans for a renovation/construction project and the caveat is the project date will be set after the funding has been raised ... I really think people will open their wallets for these projects; and I don't think it is too much to have multiple project fundraisers to be running simultaneously; we all want the upgrades. I would not find it "embarrasing" that it took a year, or two years, whatever, to fund a project ... it is showing our fans WHY the project has not begun yet; WE are the reason and we should and will respond accordingly. imo

I just hope they don't decide to do it on the cheap. We need something that will be really nice and first class for years to come. And if it means we need to wait 4-5 more years to get it done right then so be it.

Waiting another 4-5 yrs is completely unacceptable. Period. The "baseball" upgrade has been talked about for 5 years now. Every year it's pushed back. 2 years ago it was gonna be done before we host the conference tourney. This season everything is hush hush. I'm not gonna call anyone a liar, but I can't stand when u go to a ul fundraising function, and "promises" are made to the everyone there....and nothing happens. Yes, there is alot of fundraising activities going on for athletics, but it's starting to sound like the same ole same ole story. The head coaches of any sport, major or not, should never have to go beat down doors to raise money. Coaches coach, there are people in the athletic dept that should do that. Quit telling people what they wanna hear to pacify them, and shoot people strait. Empty promises don't get u to the promise land

Your points are well taken, but you do realize that 1) we've been on a "shoe-string" budget forever and 2) we just hired an Assoc. AD for fundraising just a couple of months ago, right? I agree that "business as usual" has been a very bad thing here and that the secrecy is a poor way to conduct the process, IMHO. But things have changed and are changing. It's just happening slower than we'd like and it reminds us of the bad ole days not long removed. The only thing I'd asked Scott Farmer to change right now is the transparency of the process - it isn't.

This isn't all on the admin. A private donor has been dangling his couple million dollar donation in front of us for a couple years now. From what I've heard our donation may be tied up in his latest business venture.

I don't get it. Half the people on this forum get ticked that we don't "dream big" and put out rennovation plans, etc. And the other half get ticked when we announce something big and it doesn't happen right away.

When did we announce renovation plans. When did we see drawings. We did not. We were simply told it would numerous time that construction would begin after the first out of 2012.
