I was at Lamson yesterday afternoon. It was fun to watch the Cajuns exhibit the talent and athletiscm that has them leading the Belt and as one of the top teams in the country. But don't mistake FAU for anything close to a worthy opponent. That team is an embarrassment to the league and to D1 softball. It is often said that this or that team may not be as good as a local high school team...and usually it doesn't apply. Yesterday might have been the first time that it would have. I really think TCH or STM could probably have beaten the Owls.
On the other hand, those Cajun ladies are freakin good!!
Red I was at the game yesterday and I agree with you statement they are very bad I would put money on it that there are a few high school teams here that can beat them. Geaux Cajuns beat them down again.
No, I do not believe a good high school team beats FAU unless they have a future all american pitcher. They have wins against Seaton Hall, Michigan State, UNLV, Illionis. Had a competitive game with Tulsa, not blown out by Ohio State, Michigan, Kentucky , or N Carolina. They have been run ruled by SBC teams WKU, UNT twice, and UL twice. They have not been run ruled outside of the Sun Belt.
We can only beat the teams we play, and cannot alter who our conference opponents are. FAU should be able to mount a credible team, and I think sooner than later will. Probably two to three years and they are at least OK.
When the committee looks at us, looks at how our RPI sank due to no fault of our own, we need to be sure they see us spanking teams like FAU. Too many close games and they say OK they have a nice record but their RPI sank and they struggle with bottom dwellers. So by blowing them out we at least remove one impediment, the sniff test. Let's take care of business.
Ultimately if we take care of business we have already earned our respect by the teams we beat on the high end. IMO who you beat on the upper end is more important than who you beat on the lower end, and losing to someone everyone loses to does not say you are any good, but we already had this conversation.
Express you're supposed to be "Slamming FAU"
Express...I don't know if you were at yesterday's dogbane or not. I was . They are bad. They don't have ONE player that could play for us. We slammed their top pitcher...and it got worse from there. As far as who they beat, those are "name" schools, but I question how good they are if the girls I saw yesterday wearing FAU jerseys beat them. They must REALLY suck...or had REALLY sucky days to lose to that team.
The rest of what you said is right on.
Edit... Seton Hall RPI --172...Michigan State RPI --146
No, I am not saying they are any good, I be saying they can beat high school teams that do not have a future all american pitcher, and hope due to being in Florida, where there is an abundance of talent, they can at least become OK to play.
I am also bragging on our Sun Belt teams that run ruled them. They have some "good" loses to good teams that did not run rule them Michigan for example.
That second pitcher they put in was a non schlorship player who is used for batting practice, of course their starter was used up after God knows, 14 runs in an inning. We are just that good on some days.
