Thread: Entering the weekend vs. FAU ...

  1. UL Softball Entering the weekend vs. FAU ...

The Cajuns' Adjusted RPI (assuming bonuses are unchanged) has dropped from .6721 to .6711 this week. OWP has dropped from .5576 to .5556.

Non-Conference Adjusted RPI (assuming bonuses are unchanged) has increased from .6774 to .6785. While Alabama (#1 NC RPI rank) lost their first non-conference game this week ... and it will result in a significant drop in non-conference RPI (about .01), their .7046 NC Adjusted RPI is well ahead of the Cajuns, thus the Cajuns will remain at #3.

Impact of sweeping three games vs. FAU ...

OWP moves from .5556 to .5384
Adjusted RPI moves from .6711 (began week at .6721) to .6634 (all other things being equal).

    Did somebody say rain?

An Adjusted RPI of .6634 would have been good for an RPI rank of 13 last week. Let's hope we get some help from our opponents this weekend ... and that more opponents move into the RPI bonus tiers. FIU really needs to help themselves by salvaging a game in Gainesville today.

It's a shame that just winning, even with a solidly upgraded RPI schedule, is still only borderline enough to garner a host site. I'm still vpconfident, though, that we will host a regional.

Exiting the weekend, OWP falls all the way to .5331 (our opponents fared poorly for the most part this weekend) and Adjusted RPI is .6607 ... using last week's .5452 OOWP and .0195 bonus.

The Cajuns will probably lose some RPI bonus points this week ...

    - South Alabama (#45) lost to a very poor SLU team and went 2-1 vs. UNT. South Alabama may fall out of the Base RPI Top 50, costing the Cajuns .0039 in bonus points.
    - Michigan (#24) beat Central Michigan and went 1-2 vs. Minnesota. They will likely fall out of the Base RPI Top 25, costing the Cajuns .0013 in bonus points.
    - Houston (#50) went 1-2 vs. Tulsa this week. They may or may not fall out of the Base RPI Top 50, costing the Cajuns .0026 in bonus points.
    - Kentucky (#42) went 2-0 vs. Ole Miss and 0-3 vs. Mississippi State this week. They will probably hold the Base RPI Top 50, but could fall out ... costing the Cajuns .0013 in bonus points.
    - Mississippi State (#30) went 3-0 vs. Kentucky this week. It is possible that move into the Base RPI Top 25, gaining the Cajuns .0013 in bonus points.
    - Hofstra (#56) went 1-0 vs. Fordham, 1-0 vs. St. John's, and 2-0 vs. James Madison. It is possible they move into the Base RPI Top 50, gaining the Cajuns .0013 in bonus points.
    - Troy (#55) went 1-0 vs. Florida State and 3-0 vs. Middle Tennessee. It is possible that Troy moves into the Base RPI Top 50, but the Middle series will hurt them.
    - Florida International (#54) went 2-1 vs. Middle Tennessee and 0-3 vs. Florida this week. There is a chance that they move into the Top 50 Base RPI this week, gaining the Cajuns .0026 in bonus points. But the Middle series probably kills that.
    - Tulsa (#32) went 1-0 vs. Central Arkansas, 0-1 vs. Oklahoma State, and 2-1 vs. Houston. They likely stay outside of the Base RPI Top 25.
    - Boston (#41) went 2-0 vs. Rhode Island and 1-0 vs. Harvard. They should remain in the Base RPI Top 50.
    - Northwestern (#57) went 2-1 vs. Indiana and will remain outside of the Base RPI Top 50.

As far as record vs. the RPI Top 25 is concerned, they will likely lose two wins vs. Georgia Tech and one vs. Michigan. Depending on where Mississippi State and Tulsa fall, they may only be 1-0 vs. the RPI Top 25 after this weekend.

I don't see us getting a national seed anyway, so as long as we can hang around 13 we should still host

Meanwhile, Texas (#5) lost to Baylor and Oklahoma State this past week it's possible the Cajuns could jump in the polls again.

So there are 8 national seeds and 16 host sites, with the national seeds getting precedence in the super regional, correct?

Adjusted RPI came in at .6601 as the bonus fell to .0182 and OOWP came in at .5479.

Michigan is hanging on for dear life at #25.

Unfortunately for the "Record vs. RPI Top 25" metric, the Cajuns lose this win as Michigan fell to #28 in the Adjusted RPI.

The Tulsa contribution to their OWP helped the Cougars (and teams in their vicinity fell) moving Houston up to #44.

Kentucky fell out by one spot ... to #51, costing the Cajuns .0013.

Kentucky being a .500 team did not help the Bulldogs ... it hurt them a bit. Mississippi State fell to #31.

Hofstra did move into the Top 50 at #47, gaining the Cajuns .0013.

The FSU win (.0026 bonus) and the FSU contribution to Troy's OWP (coupled with falling teams in their ranking vicinity) was more than enough to offset the negative effect of the sweep over Middle Tennesse. Troy checks in at #46.

FIU falls a few spots to #59. But the teams just outside the Top 50 are tightly packed. One win over Florida would have placed them at #49.

... and we did lose the two wins vs. Georgia Tech and the one win vs. Michigan (though they can be regained if these two teams step up their play to close the season). The Cajuns are now only 1-0 vs. the RPI Top 25.
