    Hey Proud Pop,

I remember seeing (lsu frontman) Ronnie Rantz interview Zach on BR TV well after he committed to UL and Rantz asking him something like - now that you are getting more a lot more interest, will you look at "bigger" programs?

In reply Zach told him in no uncertain terms his commitment to UL was solid.

Man, was I proud to see and hear that from him.

ps. wasn't for a lack of effort.. "we are still all legends when @ Legends.. "

pss. Reminder: Those television affiliates who plan on bringing a satellite truck to Saturday’s LSU-UL-Lafayette game, must contact Kevin Wagner at jwagne2@lsu.edu by noon on Friday.

We have a limited amount of space dedicated to satellite truck parking and if you don’t let us know that you are coming by Friday, you will not have a place to park on Saturday.

    We have already heard from:

    KATC – Lafayette
    WBRZ – Baton Rouge

psss. TRAFFIC ROUTES TO TIGER STADIUM

City Police and LSU Police have listed the best traffic routes for motorists driving to Tiger Stadium for LSU football games. To report traffic problems, call LSU Police at (225) 578-3231.

    APPROACHING CAMPUS:

From the North - If approaching the stadium from the north, use either River Road, Nicholson Drive, Highland Road or Dalrymple Drive. From these routes, parking will be available north of the stadium, on Nicholson Drive near the Carl Maddox Fieldhouse, at Kirby Smith dormitory lots off Aster and Roosevelt Streets, and at the Pleasant Hall lots on Dalrymple Drive.

From the East or South - If approaching the stadium from east or south, use either College Drive, Acadian/Stanford exit, Highland Road or Burbank Drive and Nicholson Drive. Parking for those using these routes is available, on Skip Bertman Drive near the Mississippi River, at lots off Gourrier Lane and River Road and at lots in the vicinity of the John M. Parker Coliseum.

From South on Nicholson/Burbank - Fans coming from the south on Nicholson Drive or Burbank will be routed to Gourrier Lane, then River Road and onto Skip Bertman Drive. Approximately ninety minutes prior to kickoff, police will direct one-way traffic only toward Tiger Stadium on Highland Road from Lee Drive, on West Lakeshore Drive from Stanford, and on Dalrymple Drive from the I-10 overpass.

    EXITING CAMPUS:
Going South: After the game, southbound traffic from the stadium will be directed onto Nicholson Drive, Burbank Drive or to River Road. Fans going south on Burbank Drive from the stadium after the game will be able to get to Highland Road or Nicholson Drive at Gardere Lane only. Fans going south on Nicholson Drive from the campus are advised by authorities that two-lane, one-way traffic will converge into one lane south of Jennifer Jean.

Going North: After the game, northbound traffic west of Tiger Stadium will be directed onto Nicholson Drive or to River Road. Northbound traffic east of Tiger Stadium will be directed onto Highland Road.

pssss. LSU NOTIFIED OF DISCONTINUATION OF TIGER TRANSIT SERVICE

BATON ROUGE – The LSU Athletic Department has been notified by the Capital Area Transit System that the Tiger Transit service, a bus system to transport fans to LSU football games from outlying areas, will not be operational for the 2006 football season.

CATS informed LSU on Wednesday that it did not have sufficient funding to continue to operate the service. The Athletic Department, which has invested over $200,000 in the service over the last four years, notified CATS in early July that it could not continue to help subsidize the service.

“We are certainly disappointed that CATS will not provide this service this season, but it was a business decision on their part, and I understand that,” said LSU athletic director Skip Bertman. “This was a wonderful service for LSU fans, but ultimately it did not become self-sufficient as we had all hoped.”

CATS informed LSU it will continue to offer its traditional bus service from the Westmoreland Shopping Center, but all other Tiger Transit buses will be discontinued. LSU will continue to fund the CATS buses that transport disabled patrons from handicap parking lots on the LSU campus to Tiger Stadium, and motor home parkers from Touchdown Village to the stadium.

Bertman cited escalating game day costs as a primary factor for the elimination of LSU’s participation in the Tiger Transit service. The projected cost of operating LSU football games will increase by more than $700,000 over last season, primarily due to a 54 percent increase in costs related to police, security and parking services and waste removal associated with the games and tailgating activities.

Hi CajunDad70... if you recall, I am the guy that came by your house a few years ago to pick up the tickets for the guy you bought the house from. You mentioned that you were a Ragin Cajuns fan with Zach having accepted a football scholarship at UL. I told you that I was a Cajun fan, and you called Zach out to meet me. I have kept up with his progression, and you should be proud. Sorry that Dan missed his BR/Lafayette connection. I have lived in BR for 16 years (86 UL Grad), and have this year purchased season tickets for UL Football. I made all of the home games last year, as with many prior years, and some friends and family in Lafayette decided we should all go "season tickets" this year.

I just registered on raginpagin, despite having kept up as a view-only for years. I got a kick out of Turbine having done the mathematical analysis on Skip Bertman's claim to have 14k plus LSU ticket holders in Lafayette Parish alone. Skip's no math major... Well, I am one person who will be making the trip in the other direction... so as a East BR resident with UL season tickets, I'll just waive to the mass flow heading east. I hear the useless, mindless bantering all of the time... oh, that's when they forget that they "don't care" about UL.

I am pumped about this weekend. The family and friends coming over to join me at the game include my friend and his teenage son and friend, and my sister and her husband. I sure hope that the decent LSU fans can keep the boneheaded ones in check. I regularly remind them that if you don't want the label... you do something about it. "Tiger Bait" chants ain't the problem. Here's to a great game and a safe weekend for all.

  10. UL Football Re: Countdown to Kickoff 1 day

The Cajuns only have to travel 59 miles for Saturday's game, but that actually isn't one of the closest Division I-A geographic rivalries. It ranks only 23rd on the list for closest potential I-A opponents. Houston and Rice (five miles) are first.

  11. UL Football Final Workout

There's no more time to cram and there's very little homework left, according to University of Louisiana football coach Rickey Bustle.

"I feel pretty good about us being ready," Bustle said Thursday, "but you never know if you're really prepared until you take the test."

The Cajun squad will get a stiff test at 7 p.m. Saturday when it opens the 2006 season at LSU, and the squad held its final full-fledged practice Thursday afternoon.

The squad worked 90 minutes in shorts, and Bustle said he was pleased with his team's final full workout.

"It looked pretty good from where I was standing," he said. "It was a 100 percent mental day, coming off yesterday when it was more 50-50. It was all mental execution, making good calls and being in the right places."

Thursday's session was Bustle's fifth pre-season wrapup since taking over the UL program prior to the 2002 season.

"I have a hard time remembering last Thursday," he said, "but to me it looked like everyone was pretty focused. It's normally a little looser than other days, but they looked like they knew when they needed to focus in. I think they understood what we were trying to do and what we're supposed to do in a Thursday practice."

  12. UL Football Blanco to miss ULL tailgaters

Alumni of the University of Louisiana will tailgate at the Governor’s Mansion this weekend without their most high-profile graduate.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco flew to Minnesota on Thursday for a weeklong visit with her daughter Pilar Eble and her newest grandchild, the governor’s deputy press secretary, Roderick Hawkins, said.

On Tuesday, the governor will give the opening convocation at the University of Minnesota in Morris, where her son-in-law Michael Eble is an assistant professor of studio art.

Blanco was supposed to speak at the university in 2005. Those plans were derailed by Hurricane Katrina.

Meanwhile, more than 500 ULL alumni are expected to pay $5 each to picnic at the mansion before Saturday’s matchup with LSU: the first game between the two football teams since 2002.

The governor’s husband, Raymond “Coach” Blanco, is a vice president at ULL. Blanco is a graduate of the school.

The Blancos were never supposed to host the party, said Lana Rodriguez, assistant director of the ULL Alumni Association.

The event has generated chatter on political message boards and blogs, with one site going so far as to post a cartoon depicting the governor in a cheerleading outfit outside the mansion gates.

Complaints about a perceived bias toward ULL have dogged Blanco since she took office.

My goodness. The sappy love fest that this post has become has a chance to lower my disdain for LSU. Oh,..............wait................nevermind false alarm. I still am not an LSU lover. hehe.

Here's to an injury free game, and an upset that's not very upsetting, because let's be honest here: who would be upset if LSU lost? I know I wouldn't.

    God Bless
