I don't think you can change the name until the team mascot name until it is sold or a new franchise awarded. I may be mistaken, but that's what I thought.

Pretty much and it's up to the owner. Shinn had the team in Charlotte and wanted to keep the name. Not sure about other instances, but the league (and owners id guess) will need to approve it of course.

Thanks for the clarification, but I'm all for keeping the Hornets name, because frankly I've been very unimpressed with some of the ideas floating around. The only one that I thought was sort of cool was the ArcAngels idea that Jay had mentioned. It's basketball themed and goes along with the Saints, which is nice because the two facilities are right next to each other and both teams are owned by the same guy. I really don't see how something like the Krewe or the Brass is a step up from the Hornets.

You've probably never been to a game before because if you have you'd be begging for a name change so you wouldn't have to yell "BEE-FENSE" non stop. That alone is all the reason I need to want a name change.
