Thread: ROUX: Comeaux's Trae Fitzgerald heads to All-Star game

  1. UL Football ROUX: Comeaux's Trae Fitzgerald heads to All-Star game

The phone call to the Fitzgerald home reached Trae shortly after he returned from playing five games of softball on Saturday at Carencro's Pelican Park.

He was unwinding from his team's third-place finish in tournament play, a spot that earned a berth in upcoming state tournament action in Thibodaux.

"We got third in the tournament, but it was hot," Fitzgerald admitted.

A few months ago, the Comeaux High graduate wasn't able to enjoy softball. Banged up at the end of his senior football season, the linebacker needed to have work done.

"Right after the season ended, I had reconstructive surgery on my shoulder," Fitzgerald said. "I've been rehabbing it since March. Since then, it's been five days a week. I took a week off for vacation, but otherwise I've been at it since then."

Fitzgerald was a big part of a special season for the Spartans in 2005, and he's hoping to join the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns as a walk-on this season. The thought of surgery would be vexing for some in similar circumstances, but not Fitzgerald.

I played with Landon, Trae's brother, in high school and he was a beast. I hope all works out for Trae because I seen him play a lot since his freshman year and he is a very good player. I thought he was worthy of a scholorship. If he can play as good as I know he can for this all star game he might not be walking on if a college see's him and really likes him.

I hope this kid makes the team, he and Burkhalter would make a ____ good duo at linebacker.

    READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL.

After watching him play I think he would make the team but if another school notices him at that all star game he might get a scholorship offer that he can't pass up.

I hope the best for this kid and he has great heart. I dont understand why UL didnt offer him. I too have seen him play multiple times, and hes a beast. He has showed his interest in going to UL from the beginning, and someone that has such great desire to go to a school, who is also a great player, should get offered. If he does get offered by another school, great for him. But I for one cant wait to see him in a Cajun uniform, starting in his soph year, as a walk on.

Don't know the kid, nor have a clue to his potential, BUT why did he not get an offer from anyone? I doubt he would pass up a legitimate offer for a free education.

I hope he is everything you think and plays for the Cajuns, ending up in the L club and all those things. We cannot offer every kid with potential. Sometimes you have several better players at the positions a kid can play.

He is a very good student who can go to school for free anyway. The 2 offers that he had that I know of were from Central Arkansas and Air Force. When he wasn't getting offers he liked he decided to just walk on at UL. Also I he didn't want to go any where else he likesit here and if someone wants to come to UL that bad I feel they will play that much better.

Ever heard of TOPS? They offer out of state players, and players in state that arent elligible for TOPS before players that are. Reason being, when recruiting, you can tell a guy I want you to play for us, but we only have so many scholarships, and TOPS would pay your touition anyhow. I'm not saying this is a very good recruiting tool, but being a UL baseball recruit that was told this, and asked to be a prefferred walk on I know how these things go. And in Fitzgerald's case, I'm not sure that this was the case, but it could possibly be.

Great! Like I said I hope he is everything you say, and having someone willing to give up part of the cost of education just for the chance to play for you has to be a super motivation. :o :o
