Lafayette Daily Advertiser sports writer Dan McDonald grabbed two first, four second and one third-place award here Saturday to take home the coveted Sports Writer of the Year Award at the annual Louisiana Sports Writer's Association dinner and awards banquet held at the Lafayette Holidome.
As a newspaper, The Advertiser finished second overall in the Class II (papers with circulations of 39,999 and below) Newspaper of the Year contest with a total of three first, seven second and six third-place awards.
McDonald placed first in pro event and college event; second in pro column, prep column, prep feature and amateur sports spot news; and third in amateur sports feature/column.
The Advertiser's other first-place award was in 'Best Section' for a sports section that included a detailed look back at Blackham Coliseum.
Staff writers Eric Narcisse and Brady Aymond each won one second and third-place award, while Bruce Brown grabbed a third-place award.
