Lafayette Daily Advertiser sports writer Dan McDonald grabbed two first, four second and one third-place award here Saturday to take home the coveted Sports Writer of the Year Award at the annual Louisiana Sports Writer's Association dinner and awards banquet held at the Lafayette Holidome. As a newspaper, The Advertiser finished second overall in the Class II (papers with circulations of 39,999 and below) Newspaper of the Year contest with a total of three first, seven second and six third-place awards. McDonald placed first in pro event and college event; second in pro column, prep column, prep feature and amateur sports spot news; and third in amateur sports feature/column. The Advertiser's other first-place award was in 'Best Section' for a sports section that included a detailed look back at Blackham Coliseum. Staff writers Eric Narcisse and Brady Aymond each won one second and third-place award, while Bruce Brown grabbed a third-place award. The rest of the story

Dan does a great job! He did as SID at UL also.

The Advertiser is miserable without Brady Aymond as prep editor, every local paper(New Iberia, Sulphur, Lake Charles, etc.) has had prep articles all summer...what have we had??????????Eric has been doing some girls articles...but where are the boys??? Brady is passionnate about what he did...now no one is there to fill the void and Brady is forced to talk about fishing in gar holes...

I am totally in agreement with you on the Prep stuff. I would much rather have some football updates than outdoors articles.

Agreed that we need more prep articles. The Daily ____/Sadvertiger is horrible about local pertinent news, need not go into details.

I'd also like to congratulate Dan, and ask that all the other goofballs in the sports section at the Sadvertiger (special attention is being called here to Kevin Foote and Glenn Guilbeau) realize that Dan is the one being recognized here. He is being recognized, IMO, for good sports writing that is pertinent to the city in which the paper resides. In case you've forgotten Kevin and Glenn, we're in lafayette, not Fatcat Rouge.
