You Better Be going.......You have no choice you must make every UL Mens Athletic event for the next 10 years, well maybe five, I keep forgettin exactly how old you are, heck it may be twenty that you have to make. Even Lake Charles and Beaumont for Baseball. Some guys have all the luck... I know you still say it's work.....

i'll definitely make both the FAU and FIU games. in year 2 of grad work at UM. my only chance to catch last year's team was homecoming while i was taking refuge from Wilma so i'm excited that I get to catch at least two this year. Let me know if anybody's bringing some cajun tailgating flavor down here.

what are you majoring in at UM? We have a great friend (Loyola of NO) grad in Jour. grad school. Another couple and my wife and I are going to one of the games. The wednesday game with a Sunday return sounds great!!!!

I'm in the Music Engineering program. i got a B.S.E.E. from UL.

just curious. how do students go about gettin tix for the road games? Through UL or what?

It depends on when you are driving. The most direct route that is all freeway is straight through the belly of the beast (downtown Houston). I've done it late in the evening (passing through Houston at 9 p.m.) and it took 4.5 hours. If you're driving when you'll be going through Houston during rush hour, plan on six hours. Typically with the construction that's going on right now (Sulphur to Vinton, Orange to Vidor, Vidor to Beaumont, 10/610 interchange), I'd plan for 5.5 hours.

When you get to Houston I-10, take the West Loop (610) north. Immediately take US 290 West (follow the Austin signs). After Prairie View, you'll take Texas 6 North. It's about 40 more miles to College Station.

Some might say to take I45 north to Conroe and then Texas 105 to Navasota and then Texas 6 north, but I wouldn't go that way. I45 is being rebuilt from The Woodlands to Conroe and then you'll have to pass through about 20 signals on 105 between Conroe and Montgomery.

If you did, how'd it compare to driving through the belly of the beast(which I hate)? We even managed to see beautiful downtown Sour Lake, the birthplace of Texaco.

Have you tried the TX 105 to TX 6 route from Beaumont yet? We took that route back from College Station in February. I didn't think the drive was too bad. A lot of uninhabited landscape. Tried it once. I found going through the little towns kind of tedious, and it takes about the same amount of time.

Of course, I grew up in Houston, so I just love the freeway driving during non-peak hours. Funny story: last time I drove in from B/CS on US 290, there were very few cars on the road. When we started getting into Houston, the traffic thickened, but I had to speed UP to avoid getting run over! LOL!
