Can someone explain to me why there wouldn't be a buy out clause?
The article says it does contain a buy out clause.
Hud may have asked for less salary for in exchange for a lower buy out (if that's the case). These things are negotiable. As someone said before, any SEC school will be able to pay the clause anyway.
The most important part of a buy out clause IMO would be a home and home with the team that hires him.
Did not say it was not sizable. As I commented to a post yesterday large is not huge and neither is sizable. I would never order a huge milk shake but would order a large milk shake. I think most people understand the difference.
The article did say a buy out clause that was common in the industry. If you want to think it is huge be my guest, but the word common suggest it is in line with industry standards.
Sorry Slappy, but a H and H is not a contract clause placed in a coach's contract. But, a "buyout clause" is exceptionally important. It is particularly important to us. And of course it is a negotiable item. But, in the case of Hud, with his interest not being simply a salary bump to a higher paying mid-major, there is no reason he wouldn't work with the university to assist us in that matter. Everyone can get giddy over "a signed contract"... but the terms are radically more important than the "signatures".
For instance... to any knuckleheads that don't understand contracting... when we go for state board approval... having a large salary in that contract is a negative to the state of Louisiana. Having a large buy-out is a major pacifier to those individuals. They like to see that a state school in Louisiana would be compensated in the event some out of state school purchased our coach.
The buyout clause in Hudspeth's contract is a very important component... and especially to UL.
how do you know he didnt use tulane as leverage? he ended being the top paid sunbelt coach at the time. If he did use tulane as leverage, it worked.
