UL fans have known all along their Raginš Cajun moniker was unique.
Now it's in the mix as one of the best things about college sports, according to one television network.
The web site espn.com, the web presence for the international sports television network, is conducting a public poll to determine the "best things in college sports" as part of its "Sports Nation" program.
One of the nine categories in the voting is, "Which school has the best nickname?" As of noon today, Louisianašs Ragin' Cajuns were ranked second out of the 10 options with 17.6 percent of the vote, trailing only the Cal-Santa Cruz Banana Slugs (20.6 percent). The only other school close in the voting is the Alabama Crimson Tide (12.9 percent).
UL supporters are urging fans to get online and cast votes in the nickname category on espn.com. The other categories include best school song, best college tradition, best college logo, best fans, best live mascot, best costumed mascot, best college town and best college rivalry.
