LOUISIANA La. – Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns women's tennis had a season to remember in the spring of 2006. The Intercollegiate Tennis Association confirmed this with their final national rankings.

The Cajun women earned a No. 73 national ranking. It marks the first time in school history that the women’s program ended the season nationally ranked. The ITA first began its rankings in 1982.

The No. 73 Cajuns lost only one senior, Thais Bortoletto, to a squad that improved by four wins from the 2005 spring season.

“We are the first Cajuns women’s team to ever finish with a national ranking,” said associate head women’s coach Katalin Gyulai. “Just two years ago we were 1-13, so to improve to 14-6 this season and be ranked is unbelievable. It just shows how mush effort went into the season.

“I expect even better results next year.”
