A member of the Olympics Development Program, Black is a Kansas Honors Scholar. She is ranks in the top 10-percent of her class academically, earning academic letters in 2004 and 2005.

“Emily is a very tough and explosive forward who has a very good nose for the goal,” Ragin’ Cajuns head coach Scot Wieland stated. “She is going to add a spark to our offense with her speed and goal scoring ability.”

Hofland joins the Cajuns from Acadiana High School in Lafayette. She helped lead the Rams to a district championship in the 2003-04 season. Hofland was named NSCAA Region All-American. Off the field, Hofland is a member of the National Honor Society and Beta Club. She received the scholastic excellence award. At UL, she plans on majoring in exercise science.

“We are going have to look to Courtney to be able to step in and fill some pretty big shoes that Meredith Smith left in the middle of the field.” Wieland commented. “Courtney is a very strong, tactically and technically gifted player. She is going to do some great things at UL.”

Dunigan signed with the Cajuns out of Lake Highlands High School in Dallas. She lettered for four years, leading the Wildcats to the 2005 district and state playoffs. “Bailey brings a lot of speed and size to the field” Wieland stated. “Bailey is best known for being a defensive specialist, but those skills may be put to use in our offense in 2006.”

Zak joins the Cajuns from Aledo High School in Aledo, Texas. She helped the Bearcats to the Bi-District Championship, as well as, the Area Championship. Zak led Aledo HS to the regional quarterfinals during the 2002-03 season. For her efforts, she was named First Team All-District.

Off the field, Zak is a member of the National Honor Society. She ranks 58th in her class with a 3.7 GPA.

“Taylor is a very technical and crafty player who can play either forward or center midfield,” Wieland remarked. “She will be looked at a lot to help our offense next season.”

Godchaux returns to Lafayette after spending a year at Vanderbilt. She helped the Commodores to a 17-3-3 record in 2005, starting as a true freshman.

Godchaux was a six-year letterwinner at the Episcopal School of Acadiana, starting since seventh grade. She was named first team All-District all four years of high school. “We are happy to have Leigh on the team,” Wieland said. “Leigh comes back to Lafayette after playing a year at Vandy. Leigh will bring a tremendous amount of speed and experience to our team in 2006.”

“I think our main priorities for our program this year were offense and speed,” Wieland said of his recruiting class. “I think we did a good job addressing those aspects with this recruiting class. Not only are these young ladies very talented soccer players, they are excellent academically and they are great young ladies who will add to the chemistry we have formed here at UL.”
