I could name you 25 right now...luckily they have them numbered in a list for me already to go.

arkansas state was also mostly freshman and sophomores. so what happened?
You think those schools have a 100% success rate with recruits? There will always be flops and people who don't follow the rules. Some coaches will be less strict than Tony but the players know what they're getting themselves into when they sign to play here.
Every time this thread is brought up, people always mention the Southeastern coach as a replacement for Tony. When was the last time he was in a regional?
yeah we made a regional two years ago but what about the years in between since 07'. We have just been seeing mediocre baseball at best. I don't know if it is the changes in the bats or what, but I haven't seen the caliber of hitters we were used to seeing guys that were beast at the plate ie(marendino, McCarthey, Tatford, Coles, etc). I thought we were going to get those types of hitters back under Trahan but that didn't happen. Maybe with this freshman class we may see that but we will have to wait till next year!
Apparently, they have had a better success rate than we have had. When you have one mediocre season it can be blamed on luck or another myriad of issues that can go awry during a typical college baseball season. When you have multiple seasons, across several talent classes then you can only point the finger at the coaching staff.
Let's take a look at what we have done since 2005:
2005 - 48-19
Did not win the SBC Tournament
#3 Seed in the Tulane Regional with Alabama and Southern. Got eliminated by Alabama
2006 - 39-20
Lost in the SBC Tournament
Left out of Regional's.
2007 - 45-17
Lost to UNO in the finals of the SBC Tournament, cost us a #1 seed.
#2 seed in the Texas A&M regional. Was in the drivers seat and all went to hell in a hand basket.
2008 - 30-29
Lost again to UNO in the SBC tournament at our own field.
No regional's.
2009 - 27-30-1 (Tied game with Nebraska)
Lost to Middle in the SBC tournament...
No regional's.
2010 - 38-22
0-2 in the SBC Tournament...
#3 seed in the Austin regional. Beat Rice in game 1, gave Texas all they could handle in game 2, ran out of gas in game 3.
2011 - 31-27
Pool play begins...our SBC Tournament buggaboo continues unfettered.
No regional's.
2012 - ???
Looking eerily similar to 2011.
Tony is a great coach...no one can deny that the man has coached more baseball then we as a collective will ever know. Has he had some bad luck...yes. But after a while you have to stop using that as an excuse and start to look at it as a systematic problem than just plain old bad luck. Personally, I think it's the coaches around him. Not that they aren't good coaches...they just don't fit with what we are trying to do. I think a team that can pitch well, runs the bases with reckless abandon, lacks power, lacks clutch hitting, and has fundamental issues with fielding is less likely to ring up 40 wins in a season. This has been a constant issue the past few years, barring the crazy run we had in 2010 that if you remember correctly was well on it's way to being a terrible year. I don't have the answers...wish I did. I would give them to Tony free of charge. But...I don't. What would I like to see? Tony bringing in an old friend...Wade Simoneaux. We have his son on the team. Tech is in a worse situation than we are. Can't hurt anything to bring back a coach who was apart of something special here in Lafayette. I don't want Tony gone...I want him here forever...I just think he needs to surround himself with the best people possible. Without him doing that...I don't see this team ever returning to the salad days.
I think we would all love to have Wade Simoneaux back
I dont know but if you look at Coach Deggs record pretty impressive time will tell.
the problem is Tony doesnt let his coaches coach, he is a micromanager. You wont know anything about Deggs because he will be gone after this year. The mans resume is way too impressive to be the 2nd assistant on our staff, he was the co-head coach at texas A&M.
