Broadway looked great. Throws a beautiful ball, especially the deeper passes. We are all set at QB!
I posted my take on the game on Cajunredzone but my thoughts follow:
Gautier did not look real comfortable running the offense today as he made some bad decisions and throws. i think some of that had to do with him not running with Lawson, Peoples etc.. as well as pressing a bit as Broadway started to look really GOOD. I don't think that Gautier will lose the spot but it definitely makes you happy we have Broadway there in case something happens to Blaine. Also, I thought that Torrey Pierce was the best running back out there today. Harris looked good but didn't have much room to run while Pierce was able to bounce outside and get some really nice runs. Carter shows his speed and he will definitely help us out in the running game and on special teams.
Tig Barksdale is a monster and he forced several receivers to miss as he scared them into drops or tips that turned into interceptions. he is a physical presence in the secondary and I don't see him not starting unless he's hurt or not qualified. I also thought Jevante Watson looked really good and will give us great depth at CB. Gillis looked good at FS and Lawson was his same solid play making self. There were a lot of drops and turnovers and guys were generally rusty as is to be expected and its still a scrimmage but I saw a lot of athleticism out there to make me really excited about next year. I know we are replacing a lot of guys on defense but I think we have some solid guys to step in like Moseby, Burrowes, Watson and Barksdale.
Broadway had more time "a" because his line protected better and "b" the his d line got a good rush on Gautier.
Gauthier was taking snaps from Terry Johnson and not Huval. May have had something to do with his rhythm. His shoes were hot...why did he have brand new shoes and every else had the same stuff?
On many throws, Blaine securely had the ball in hand from a good snap and plenty of time but there was typically good coverage on his receivers or he made a bad decision. Again, I know that he didn't have two of his best receivers to play with as that limits him with his rhythm that he typically has with those guys but I just noticed that he pressed more and made some bad decisions. I don't believe that it means anything more than just having a bad scrimmage. He still managed some good things as he led to the TD late in first half.
I like Torey Pierce...give the man a scholarship. Remember Le'marcus Gibson wasn't participating. Figaro's catch at the end of the half was Lawson-esque. Carter had good burst to the outside and Bradley Brown looked good in the slot. Fouqier had a bull rush on Gauthier where he almost forgot to pull up. Dude smelled blood. That was a fun game to watch. This team is gonna be special...is it September 1st yet?
-----had a great time introducing Glen LaFleur to all the younger older guys---He was telling them that his teammates kept the offensive blockers off of him so he made all the tackles-----Glen was very special, tough as nails, and very fast--don't try to run away from him---I asked who was the best RBs and QBs that he played against --Tom Smiley(Lamar) and a real load and Joe Profit (N'East) a great one----QBs Bradshaw and Roger Starback----yes the Cajuns played against these and a lot more really great future NFLers back then!!!!
