Thread: Louisville win streak ends at 28 ...

  1. UL Softball Louisville win streak ends at 28 ...

After three consecutive one run wins by Louisville over Pittsburgh (2) and Kentucky, Louisville today falls to DePaul 7-1 to halt their season opening win streak at 28. Louisville (28-1) and DePaul play in the second game of the doubleheader later this afternoon.

Interesting that theirs ended exactly where ours did.

Guessing we'll pass them in rpi bc of the big drop in WP

If I'm not mistaken, they already were behind us in the rpi.

DePaul takes two out of three with a 3-0 win today. Brian, in your opinion how much will the fact that we are off this weekend affect our RPI/Ranking?

Depends on a lot of things. Unless we would have lost 2 or 3 games our WP wouldn't have changed much. And it would have depended on who our opponenets were on how it would affect any bonuses, etc.

I think the main thing will rely on what our opponenets did this weekend and I haven't seen all the scores but I did see a few and a number of them did well this weekend. It's possible our OWP went up a tad.

I'm not Brian but I try to help

I don't see how us not playing would affect our rpi in the least.

Not necessarily. They lost again today (two losses this weekend). And while their WP will drop significantly, this is only 25% of the formula. Second, they had a significant lead over the Cajuns entering the week (.6777 vs. .6654). This gap is more than the gap between the Cajuns at #7 and Texas A&M at #12.

What happens with the Cajuns will depend much on how our opponents fare today (and fared this week). We may also lose some bonus points this week. Several teams were straddling the lines on both sides.

But let me be clear. I have no illusions that the Cajuns will be where they currently are at selection time. I will be shocked if the Cajuns stay in the Top 10 and am really just hoping that they have enough of a schedule (conference) to finish in the Top 16. What will make it difficult for the Cajuns is the fact that most of the teams around them are about to enter the "gravy" period of their schedule. This is the time of the year when they can pick up huge bonuses (for all games against quality teams ... even conference ... and even at home) ... and this is on top of the RPI formula that is already biased towards teams that have the benefit of having a loaded conference schedule. On many occasions you will have teams in the RPI Top 25 that will have their RPI improve simply by getting swept by one of the top teams.

See the other thread (Cajun OWP). You will see how our RPI has been changing on a daily basis ... and this is without factoring in the OOWP changes. Most of the RPI is driven by how our opponents fare ... hence I focus on the OWP.

At this point, we benefit most when our weakest opponents win.

Not really. Maybe I'm dense, but how does the simple virtue of the Cajuns not playing (ignoring PEP, OOWP, OOO...WO, etc ) affect their rpi? In and of itself, how does the Cajuns not playing affect their rpi? I know their WP doesn't go up if they don't play, but it doesn't go down, either. Or am I missing something? If I am, please let me know.

I'm no pert past or future, , , but "your" winning percentage is only a portion of you "your" RPI.

It is my understanding that your RPI can be affected when your previous oppontents win or lose and when your previous opponents-opponents win or lose.

With all of the talk about RPI and the OWP threads, I seriously thought you were pulling my leg.

How can you ignore OWP and OOWP?

OWP is the RPI ... and OWP + OOWP is 75% of the RPI.
